Definitely seems to be some excessive contact to the head, but seems to be more the variety of split second decision of how to handle the collision. No bad intention

I disagree - I don't think the movement by his hands is 'natural' and he clearly pushes Stephenson's head away with his right hand at the end. I may be underestimating and downplaying the split second decision making, but it looks to me like Voit wanted there to be contact knowing it was going to be a bang bang play.

Looks to me that Voit's hands to the head action caused Stephenson's head to hit the ground.

Stephenson lunges into Voit's path. Voit's hands are impulsively protecting his own head.

Play more sports, you nerds. s*** happens.

Miggy reaching 3k hits is kind of bittersweet. A bit weird to celebrate longevity achievements for a player who should have retired 6 years ago.

I think if he was a free agent during that time, he would have been forced to retire unless a team signed him to a cheap one-year or minor league contract and that's if he would have accepted it. He's still getting paid $32M for 2023.

I don't know why but in my head Miggy was bad but serviceable up until like, Covid. But he's been replacement level since 2017. Sad.

Yeah, his last great season was in 2016. Since he's been replacement level or worse.

I think he would have already been forced to retire after 2017 if it wasn't for that monster contract. Maybe a team would have signed him to a minor league contract or a cheap one-year deal, but he would have had to agree to that as well. Look at Jose Bautista after 2018, nobody even wanted to sign him or roll the dice on him. Only way Bautista would be playing today is if a team handed him a huge contract after his 2015 or 2016 season.

He fit a lot of people's idea of what a hitter who will be good into their late 30s might look like: elite contact, elite power, elite command of the strike zone, doesn't rely on athleticism. Nothing about his 2016 season looked different from the previous years, and there were no real warning signs that he was actually finished as a productive player at 33.

He still had two years at $22M on his contract before signing that 10-year extension lol. He cashed in at the perfect time. Dave Dombrowski ugh!

Probably health related. Oh yeah, found it on wiki:

On September 24, Cabrera was diagnosed with two herniated discs in his back, a condition that he likely played through the entire [2017] season.

RIP Miggy.

He's been bad no doubt but since 2016 he's had an OPS+ of 99. For a no defense, terrible baserunner making 30 mil a year that's really bad. But his bat in itself isn't completely unplayable.

That's insane lol. If they hadn't extended him they would have lost out on 1 productive year (2016).

I hope Vladdy Jr doesn't have the same type of career trajectory when he hits his early 30's. Hope the Jays lock him up until he's 32 or 33 and can win a World Series or two with guys like Vladdy, Bichette, Teo, Springer all still healthy and in their prime.

Kind of weird timing as well because Detroit was trying to rid themselves of the Prince Fielder contract and traded him after 2013.

Tigers made the postseason in 2014 though they became sellers in 2015 after trading away Price and Cespedes. Such bad timing to give Miggy that extension. Glad the Blue Jays never gave Bautista a huge contract extension after 2015.

Odor gained 3.5 WAR just on defense then? Interesting

Yeah that would explain why team keep employing him. Because it certainly isn't for his garbage bat.

LOL Yankees intentionally walk Cabrera in the bottom of the 8th and the crowd is booing like crazy

What situation would make sense to IBB Miggy lol

He was okay in 2018, just injury shortened. I'd say he probably should have retired after 2019 in an ideal scenario.

Yup, that'll do it.
