Connor Phillips is officially the player to be named later going from Seattle to Cincinnati in the Jesse Winker heist.

Per MLB.come write up:

“More than any pitcher in the organization, Phillips is the classic high-risk, high-upside arm that has some scouts marveling and others uncertain. On one hand, the righty had a 32.6% strikeout rate in 2021, and on the other, a 1.477 WHIP. Elite stuff with some command issues has been the profile for the former JUCO pitcher, whom the Mariners liked enough in 2020 to use their Competitive Balance Round B pick on, signing him for a full-slot bonus of just over $1 million.”

Fangraphs opinion on Phillips FV 40:

“In high school, Phillips was best when he was 88-92 with command, but could sit 91-94 and hit 96 mph while losing the strike zone. He decided not to sign as 35th round pick by Toronto out of high school in 2019, and opted for junior college rather than following through on an LSU commitment. He began hitting 98 in the fall of 2019 and held that velo coming out early in 2020 before slipping back into the 91-94 range by mid-February, though he’s back into the mid-90s now. Phillips has three good-looking pitches but his grip-and-rip style of pitching is more evocative of a reliever. He’ll try to back door his curveball for strikes but otherwise there aren’t many present pitchability elements to speak of here. (Fall Instructional League)”

The Cardinals are currently beating the Nats 27-4 in the 8th inning. It's spring training I know, but wow.

Crazy scores this spring, too many fillers facing full line-ups.

Pete Fairbanks Has Partially Torn Lat, Expected To Miss Multiple Months

March 30th, 2022 at 3:17pm CST • By Anthony Franco

MARCH 30: Fairbanks has a partially torn lat, Topkin reports (on Twitter). He’ll be shut down from throwing for at least six weeks as initially expected, at which point he’ll be reevaluated. Topkin suggests it’d take another six weeks for him to ramp back up into game shape once he begins a throwing program. It seems a late June or early July return to the majors is the best case scenario.

Fairbanks becomes another notable loss for a Tampa Bay pitching staff that’ll be without a few important arms. Tyler Glasnow, Nick Anderson and Yonny Chirinos are each going to miss significant chunks of the season recovering from injuries that date back to last year. Top prospect Shane Baz was shut down for a bit last week after undergoing arthroscopic elbow surgery.

The fact that this policy is actually preventing them from signing players they otherwise want is completely absurd.

Wonder if they'd make an exception for a player who doesn't cut his hair for religious beliefs.

This policy actually helped them dodge a bullet as far as Dolis is concerned.

Is he getting a shitload of endorsements money from that hair?

Outside of basketball and shoes, basically your paycheck changing endorsement deals are few and far between. Head and Shoulders isn’t tilting any scale

You'd think some day they'd trade for a player, and that player would refuse to cut their hair or shave.

I bet Brian Wilson wouldn't shave if he was traded to the Yanks.

This is Jose Ramirez's agent:

It's probably nothing but the potential implications still have me laughing my ass off.

I can see it now: "I'll gladly pay you in 2023 for a hamburger ... er contract today." Probably a very Wimpy offer.
