Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Jays need to parlay that catcher surplus into a solid back end starter
jerb Verified Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Andy Martino @martinonyc The Mets offered Kevin Gausman more than the 5/$110 million he accepted in Toronto, per source.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Ethan Diamandas @EthanDiamandas Some really strong parallels b/w Gausman's put-away splitter & Robbie Ray's slider, which #BlueJays fans learned to love. Gausman's splitter in 2021: 45.9% whiff Ray's slider in 2021: 45.8% whiff Both nasty pitches; lots of swing and miss. Good. Swing & Miss is King.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Rodon is the perfect fit here. Not linked to any compensation either. White Sox are dumb for not qualifying. Let the Angels overpay Ray and lets grab Rodon. Or are the Sox smart like a fox? Who knows. They’re a team competing though and the QO made sense. So either it was about good will, or they didn’t like the medicals?
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Ray/Rodon Gausman Berrios Manoah Ryu Pearson 6 man rotation next season
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Jays need to parlay that catcher surplus into a solid back end starter Or into a 3rd baseman. I hear Oakland has one potentially available.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Andy Martino @martinonyc The Mets offered Kevin Gausman more than the 5/$110 million he accepted in Toronto, per source. Wow, another completely unprofessional agent.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 I wouldn't count on Stripling being a solid #6. It's a contract year for Stripling... don't be surprised if we don't see a career year for him... not Ray like but could still be solid lol.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 I wouldn't count on Stripling being a solid #6. Why not? He had some quality starts last season. As a long man out of the pen with a spot start here and there, I don't have an issue with him. I do not want him as one of my 5 though.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 FO not f***ing around on arms. Going to be interesting to see what they want to do 2B and 3B with Marcus gone. No way they sign Ray too
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Andy Martino @martinonyc The Mets offered Kevin Gausman more than the 5/$110 million he accepted in Toronto, per source. This makes me so happy to read lol
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 This makes me so happy to read lol It might not mean anything. The Mets may have offered him like 7/120 or something. We don't know the term.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Or into a 3rd baseman. I hear Oakland has one potentially available. Hmm. Love his D obviously but yet another RHH and the K rate makes me queasy.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Ray/Rodon Gausman Berrios Manoah Ryu Pearson 6 man rotation next season Screw Ray and Rodon. Back up the Brinks truck for 2 years of Scherzer and let’s bring home the bacon
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Nice! 5 years is very solid. After Semien got 7 I thought we’d have to add a year to all of the FA projections. But the Rangers are a trash org so they probably had to give an extra two years.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 It might not mean anything. The Mets may have offered him like 7/120 or something. We don't know the term. Nah I'm going to believe the Mets offered him 5/200 but he loved us so much that he accepted 5/110
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 I'm pretty pleased with the term of this signing. We knew that it would be over 20 million, but a 6th year was awfully risky.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Screw Ray and Rodon. Back up the Brinks truck for 2 years of Scherzer and let’s bring home the bacon Definitely on Scherzer. I will admit that his fatigue issues in the playoffs are a little concerning though.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 It's so weird watching a Jays team that shops at the top of the FA market.
John Balkabella Verified Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 This can’t be true. All the “sources” had it down to the Mets and Mariners. Well done Shatkins!
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 It's so weird watching a Jays team that shops at the top of the FA market. 3 offseasons in a row man. Ryu to Springer+Semien to Gausman+? What makes it even better is that we're at a point starting this offseason where we don't have to overpay guys anymore. That's left for the Rangers of the world.
BallsDeep Verified Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Did he turn down more money from the Mets?? If so I love it so much more.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Did he turn down more money from the Mets?? If so I love it so much more. Yes, that's what they're saying. Love to see it
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 It's so weird watching a Jays team that shops at the top of the FA market. This is honestly nuts. Ryu for 4/80 in 2019. Springer for 6/150 and Semien for 1/18 in 2020. Now TWO 100+ million contracts to 2 different starting pitchers in 2021. Unreal
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 f***ing sweet signing. Hopefully they are still hard after one of Scherzer, Ray, Rodon or Gray too. Load that rotation up!
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 This makes me so happy to read lol This is just icing on the cake.

Is there any report of this? I thought after Gausman, we'd look for the best bargain starter like a Matz to fight for the 5th spot.
Key22 Verified Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 What are people's thoughts on Gray - it seems odd that his numbers were worse on the road than at Coors. What's up with that?

I thought after Gausman, we'd look for the best AL bargain starter like a Matz to fight for the 5th spot. I have no idea what the Jays will do next. They've got money to spend though, and another legit starter would be nice. For all I know they are chasing a position player now though.
