thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 The s***** part of the Rangers spending stupidly is that there are 2 less targets for us. We're actually trying to win something while I have no clue wtf the Rangers think they're doing. If Seager was looking for that kind of contract, there's no way the Jays should've had him as a target in the first place. Yeah, the Jays are trying to build a window, but a contract like that for a regularly-injured player is a giant bag of yikes especially when your team surrounding is not up to snuff.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 We only have $15M more committed for 2022 than the Rangers ($140M for us vs. $125M for them) and we are leagues better off than them. I think they've realized they've semi-botched their rebuild, so they're trying to be respectable by spending a ton of money. Don't think they're going to get to the playoffs still though. They're setting themselves up to be bad for another 5-10 years, and I don't think they sniff the playoffs. Shatkins did it right: build the foundation, then add the expensive finishing touches. And they're still acting responsibly: Ryu is a good 2022 from making good on his 80M deal, and I think Gasuman is a pretty high floor signing as well. When Semien bidding went to high, they walked away.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 What a stupid time for the Rangers to be taking this kind of risk. Not only massive overpays, but the timing is off by at least 3 years. The only thing that makes sense for the Rangers now is to trade prospect capital for a short contention window.... Leiter, Winn, Jung, whoever else. If not, years of mediocrity is their future.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Sign Conforto and Seager and focus the rest on the bullpen.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Sign Conforto and Seager and focus the rest on the bullpen. Jesus man, I respect your opinions but Seager sucks ass bro. Conforto would be nice yr gamble though
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Escobar was the much better mediocre 3b option

I doubt Seager nor Semien actually expected these contracts from any of their preferred destinations. Rangers came in and just screwed up the market for a team that's going nowhere. Ah well... like another poster said, it's a free market so we need to figure it out and keep improving.

jerb Verified Member Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 Jeff Passan @JeffPassan Right-handed reliever Daniel Hudson and the Los Angeles Dodgers are nearing an agreement on a one-year deal, sources tell ESPN. When completed, it’s expected to be for around $7 million.

I'd be down with Conforto, but can we trade Grichuk. Hopefully there will be a salary floor in the new agreement. There will be a few teams that want to lose, but need to spend money. Grichuk would seem like a perfect fit!

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 What's the Rangers rotation? Gray, Dunning, Hearn, Alexy and Howard? Their starting outfield? Garcia, Calhoun and Billy Mckinney? They must have a bunch more signings coming because that team is still s*** right now.
