I know we've had a pretty fun rivalry with that community in the past and we got some of our best jokes and jabs in when the situation called for it.

This thread isn't for that.

As many people here who've been around since those days know, Weams was the managing editor and one of the main people in charge of Orioles Hangout.

Michael "Weams" Williams had been battling Stage 4 kidney cancer since at least March. His wife Denise, who had been giving regular updates to the Orioles community there on his condition, announced on Saturday that he had passed away. The last game he watched was his beloved Orioles defeating the Yankees in an unlikely upset, 4-3. As we all know now, that was the first game in the Yankees current 6-game loss streak and it helped begin the downturn that resulted in their recent 4-game sweep at the hands of the Blue Jays.

I'm not going to pretend that we didn't have our issues with their community and how things were moderated there but at the end of the day, we are all united in our love for sports. That transcends petty baseball rivalries.

I know this won't be read by anyone it matters to but I just wanted to put this out there anyway to express my condolences and sympathies for Michael's family and the Orioles Hangout forum, who I'm sure are having a tough time dealing with the loss of a lifelong sports fan that was a pillar of their community.

Rest in peace, Michael. As one of the people who was involved in the little battle between our forums, I apologise if I said or did anything in the heat of a sports rivalry that upset ya.

I forgot all about Orioles Hangout. Sucks to reminded of it on such a sad note. All my best to Weams family and Orioles Hangout posters.

Anyone want to see if they’ll trade for Spanky to compensate for the void? Anything more than a bag of chips probably gets it done for me

In seriousness, I didn’t know we traded jabs with them. Cancer sucks though and modding these forums is a thankless gig so RIP.

Hope I am doing this right. I just registered and came over from the Oriole Hangout to say thanks and a classy move. I have no position with the OH and I never met Mike. But as our moderator he was glue that kept us together and made the place better for all of us Oriole fans. I did not participate in the battle between our forums and cannot speak for anyone officially. But I wanted to say thanks for the condolences to the forum. There are times when we can all stand united in our commonalities and you have demonstrated that well. Best of luck to the Blue Jays and congrats on the recent sweep of the Yankees.

And thank you again for your class.

I appreciate this, thank you for your kind words. Good luck and I can't wait for Rutschman and Moreno to battle over the title of best catcher in the league in a few years. Will be fun.

Oh man, that's horrible. Weams actually had the balls to come post here during one of those feuds. We had our fun with him but I feel like it was always in good humor and this is horrible news.

RIP in peace, buddy. No one should have to go that way.

E: damn, RLC Roy Firestone got Jim Palmer to call Weams. I feel the need to do something for him and his family. A fund of some kind?

RIP Weams. That's really sad to hear :(.

Today is the 1 year anniversary of my Mom's passing, also from cancer. Hearing someone else passed today from it brings back all that emotion from last year.

I feel for his wife, family and friends. Cancer is a motherf***er.

Sorry about your mom. Very tough. It was all our war up in here with Weams and the hangout in 2016. He was a good sport about it all. RIP Weams. Brutal way to go.

It'll be 10 years this Halloween since my dad passed. Cancer as well. What a disgusting illness.

Thoughts go out to Weams' family.

Sorry man, f*** cancer.

Thanks Cecil! I remember the back and forth. Will remember it for the fun banter it was! Brutal way indeed.

With my Mom, I saw her go, was right there as she faded. Hardest s*** to witness in my life. She was on a breathing machine, but wasn't feeling pain because of the morphine, but her face as she drifted off just broke me. She caught that s*** for 2 years and was given 3-6 months at the beginning. In the end no more how you fight it, it gets you.

Cancer sucks, it's just awful.
