Key22 Verified Member Posted August 23, 2021 Posted August 23, 2021 This was always a growing season so I am not too concerned by the results - teams slump, players slump but experienced good teams find a way to beat mediocre teams. We had a great pen at the beginning of the year but the injuries were tremendous and it proved too hard to overcome. A totally healthy Yates and Merriweather and Borucki and Hatch would have gone a long way this year. As for firing the manager. Well who are you going to hire? Take all the NAME managers like a Buck Showalter - just to point out that every single manager that is known to you that is not currently working was FIRED and in 99% of cases the fans hated him for mismanaging the pen or putting a bunt down that failed. We recently played LAA and Eaton cost them games against us - he has such an awful arm that everyone was running on him - that's the hand their manager was dealt. Why play such a bum was my thought - he's done. Well, that's what the manager had. They released him since but... And the manager that everyone laughed at when they hired him for being an old geezer out of touch with modern baseball - Tony La Russa - um he's winning! 72-53 first in the division with a 10 game lead. So his lack of metrics isn't hurting them. Hell Cito won two world series here and he was considered a bum. Here's a thought - a fringey player should be able to get a f***ing bunt down. You are an MLB pitcher - get the hitter out. You are an all-star second baseman - throw the f***ing ball chest high to the first baseman! The manager can't play the game for the players and when management gives you Dolis and Chatwood for the 7th-8th then you are stuck with them.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted August 23, 2021 Posted August 23, 2021 This year is a real good lesson that a bad BP will sink a good team. A s***** bullpen combined with a s***** manager. Montardo always gave the s***** and/or cold relievers just enough rope to hang themselves.....and the team in the process.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2021 Posted August 23, 2021 The more I watch the play, the more I realize how badly Vlad f***ed up. Yes, the throw was low but Vlad made no stretch towards the ball. He could have caught the ball without a bounce but instead he tried to catch it on a short hop for some reason? Stupid play on both ends. Awful loss
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2021 Author Posted August 23, 2021 Bad Ass!!! < Brandon Savage!
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2021 Author Posted August 23, 2021 8 walks in the last 10 games If we were seeing the same Vlad as earlier, there'd be far more BB's at the moment, he needs them to bring it back in the zone or just walk more. That's the best Vladito, that's the fun guy we want.

This is still on Semien, but I agree that Vlad wasn't as prepared as he should have been.

Absolutely no reason an MLB player should spike that throw True, but if you watch where the ball bounced it was like 2 feet away from the bag. Easily catchable on the fly with even a small stretch. They BOTH need to do better on that play

They BOTH need to do better on that play I'm sure Vladdy is as disappointed as anybody he didn't catch that throw, but if you are going to assign blame it's like 99.9% on Semien. It was a super routine throw that he botched.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 23, 2021 Posted August 23, 2021 This wasn't even the first time a Jays infielder has done this on a routine grounder to cost us the game. Remember this one at the 1:45 mark? I pretend I do not see this. Instead I will go to 1:30 and watch that play.

I think he tried it another time soon after and hurt his arm pretty badly? Fluke it happened on that try. Was never really the same after that for arm strength. Was his best tool in the OF.

Yeah lol i’m pretty sure he tried to throw out Odor at 1st and that’s when he f***ed his shoulder. His arm robounded the next year though from what I remember
