We need a new hitting coach. Same thing over and over, outside outside outside, offspeed away, high to Bo, and nothing over the plate to Vlad. 4 runs or less and around 5 hits

This is an insanely terrible offense... covered up by the fact that the pitching has been insane.

That being said offense is down all around.. Yankees and Tampa Bay have similar team numbers.

It will be interesting to see if guys go back to trying to make more contact, hit to all fields. If swinging like a maniac led to .250 with 25 homers and 200 ks in 2019 it might only lead to .225 with 15 homers and 200 ks in 2021... so it might make sense to try and hit .270 with 5 homers by hitting to all fields.

Everybody needs to be prime Joe Panik instead of Dan Uggla...

So maybe playing Joe Panik and Espinal will actually makes sense (if the others can't adjust and be like them)

Jansen seems like he needs to make some significant mechanic adjustments.

Maybe stand up straighter. I have no idea. But he just doesn't make quality contact.

I don't like this new world you speak of. Seems like a perfect fit for the Royals...

Kirk has been crap but he's totally outplayed Jansen and deserves more reps there. In a perfect world, Kirk would be in AAA while Jansen is our backup.

He definitely has not "totally outplayed" Jansen. They've both been garbage at the plate, but Jansen is the best defensive catcher in the AL, and Kirk is... probably okay.

There’s nobody knocking at the door to replace him. Unless they plan to fast track Gabriel Moreno the way they did with Kirk lol. He’s never played above Low A ball though.

Johnathan Lecroy is available... .248/.315/ .350

Is Riley Adam's that bad behind the plate? He can't hit worse than Jansen right now

Imho Riley Adams is better than Jansen and Kirk.

The Jays may just have something with Santiago Espinal. He really some freakish bat-to-ball skills and has demonstrated as such throughout the minors. He’s never going to be somebody who hits homers regularly, but I think there is some sneaky pop/line drive power that will translate to doubles. I think he can be at least average with the bat.

Combine that with above average defense around the infield and I think you’ve got a real good option off the bench and/or insurance in case somebody gets injured.

Just watched on PVR and didn't know outcome. Wow. Great to win a series at the Trop!!

Pen was amazing again. D pretty solid. Nice to see Marcus and Gurriel hitting the ball away...away. Poor Jansen just cannot buy a hit even when he hits it well.

Dolis with a 6 pitch 9th was the biggest shocker. Awesome.

Hope Ryu isnt out long! Nice win to go into an off day.

It looks like Ryu actually hurt his ass before the game and then played through it:

Interesting. Definitely looks like he pitched through injury the entire game. Hopefully that means the injury isn’t too serious

That's what I was thinking too

I mean he gets 5 days off now

Maybe he takes it easy on his bullpen session

Ryu gives me the Halliday feels that when he is on the mind I feel like we are going to win.

I like Ryu and all but he does not give me that feeling. Probably because Doc did it for so long and we haven't seen a full season of Ryu yet. Also Doc was good for a bunch of complete games. Those days are sadly gone.

I feel he's extremely underrated sometimes because he doesn't blow guys away with stuff. Since the beginning of 2018 he owns the 2nd lowest ERA, with only Degrom beating him.

Ryu is clearly underrated by media, fans and teams. We wouldn't have him for 4 and 80 right now if he wasn't under rated. That was considered a big over pay by most. It's looking like a pretty fair deal right now. I'm glad he's ours!

Yeah it's all deception. Like you said he doesn't blow people away with velocity. He does have nasty breaking stuff but essentially he sneaks balls past hitters while they seem to frequently have no idea what's coming or where it's going to be.

As I said in a GDT it must be very uncomfortable facing him. He is certainly underrated by many fans but I'd guess many batters would tell you he's one of the toughest they face.

I don't recall much talk of it being an overpay at the time.

I think it was due to Ryu's medical history not his on mound history!

That was my impression too

Injury history made most teams (including the Dodgers of course) want to go no more than 3 years

Why would the scorer give the W to Mayza, was he drunk? Chatwood saving Mayza's ass was easily more deserving? These guys are f***ed, giving hits for clear errors, etc... shameful.

Mayza was the pitcher of record when the Jays took the lead, and he wasn't the starter, so it's not up to the official scorer to make a call, that's just how wins are determined.

No, it's up to the scorer.

Hrmm... just looked it up...

The rule is dumb and far too vague, apparently... "most effective reliever" is a bizarre judgement call.. I mean, Dolis got 4 outs on 6 pitches, why doesn't he get the W?
