Am I drinking my own bath water in thinking our pen looks pretty good now? Got some V on the right side and if Borucki has found it he adds a tougher lefty. Pearson and Merryweather juxtaposed against Richards change and Cimber funkiness. Soria still has decent stuff and crafty. Lots of looks. Thornton is gone again which is good news.

I like this current pen as well. The overall effectiveness obviously depends on all of Merryweather, Pearson and Borucki managing to pitch up to their capabilities, but thankfully all of the dead weights have been removed from the roster. We don't have to suffer through any Dolis, Thornton, Chatwood or Hand outings at this point.

Yes you are drinking your own bath water until Pearson and Merryweather become who we thought they could be. We currently have 4 good arms in the pen (Romano/Mayza/Cimber/Richards) and the rest are very volatile.

I liked what I saw of merryweather yesterday a lot and I like what I’ve seen of Pearson. Glass half full and prayer.

Merryweather and Pearson could potentially be as good or better than all save Romano. The next couple weeks will tell.

I have more confidence in Merryweather in the late innings but Pearson has awesome stuff. Would I use Pearson in a close win or go home game? Yikes

peep the Yankees odds on August 27th

Mike Wilner explained it. For every 10 teams that look like they have 90% odds of making the playoffs one of them collapses.

For every 10 teams, 5 or 6 games out late August with playoff odds of 10% one of them goes on a crazy run and makes it.

How can anyone take these playoff odds seriously?

Because at this point in the season, only weirdness happening really changes things.

It's not perfect... but I'll roll with this pen with much more confidence than at any other point in the season.

Agreed

And we're now pairing it with the best starting rotation in the division

Let's hope Yarborough our nemesis, doesn't ass rape us again.

MLB.com says McHugh is starting. Is he being used as an opener? And does that even help when the opposing lineup is STACKED from 1-7?

It does when you're the Rays. Someone sold their soul down there

I’m not comfortable when the main four aren’t in personally. Maybe Merryweather figures it out in time to be relevant. But I have zero faith in Pearson. I’m hoping Soria see’s no more high leverage innings the rest of the way.

Sort of feel bad for Reese. More WAR than either of the others but has lost his job because of dumb s*** like projekshuns and visible talent.

lol

Probably one of my stupider posts and that is saying something. Lots of money and time in MLB and some dumb owner I am sure already said "Hey, if we could stop the guys from pulling the ground balls, it would be super-money ball', and they can't stop the guys from pulling the ground balls, without making something else worse, or they would of already done it.

Though, even Buck and Tabby think they don't have to pull the ground balls.

Buck - 'All he has to do is hit a little ground ball the other way and he's got a base hit'

Pat - 'I can tell you if I was still playing I'd have loved it if they gave me a free hit. I didn't get very many you know'

Buck - 'Except with the bases loaded.'

Pat - (Laughing)

lol... funny s***.

Couldn't find a bold predictions thread for this year so I'll stuff this here. I've seen enough from this team and baseball in general to make these two:

1. Jays will win 95ish games this year.

2. Guerrero will flirt with .400, maybe land somewhere between Olerud and Gwynn, and hit 60+ home runs.

Need 14-4, Guerrero to hit 15 home runs and go something like 60 straight at bats with a hit to score on all of this.

Yesterday historically Canada tested it's first newly acquired cruisemissle at the Rogers Center it was fired from the bat of baseball highly touted player Vladimir Guerrero Jr it was fired at 114 MPH the laser like guided bomb sail at very low level in a straight line over left field wall. ;)

Vladdy, Eddie Matthews, Johnny Bench and Joe Dimaggio are the only players age 22 or younger to hit 45 HR's. Nice HOF company to be in. I remember when I think Jim Callis predicted Vlad Jr and Sr would be the first father son in the hall.

And I like Vlad's odds to pass them all.

It is absurd how hot this lineup is right now top to bottom. For the month of September the only regular that isn't raking is Springer which is understandable since he's playing on one good leg at the moment. The clubs WRC values for the month are as follows:

Gurriel 267

Jansen 266

Teoscar 265

Semien 198

Guerrero 197

Kirk 192

Grichuk 192

Valera 189

Bichette 159

Lamb 100

Springer 77

Dyson 40

Dickerson 19

Two more to tie Eddie Matthews atop that leaderboard. Being HR total for a player 22 or younger.

Matthews did it his age 21 season though so Matthews would still have that 21 and younger category to himself.

If Vlad can hit 50 he would be tied for #1 in the 23 and younger category as well. Fellow large man Prince Fielder did that.

24 and younger is when it becomes out of reach. 58 by Jimmie Foxx

He'll have 2 more years to attempt to reach Foxx's 58.

Next year he starts setting his sights higher than that. The single season record is doable...

He needs to avoid that August cold streak he hit this year. With more experience I think he should be able to avoid those homer-less streaks.

His cold stretch didn't even wind up being that frozen. 267/346/440 for a not awful .786 OPS. He still hit six homers during the month.

Wasn't really the whole month. It was from the 3rd to the 29th. Only 2 HR with a .672 OPS

He needed Dante to talk to him sooner. Team's been unhinged since Dante came back.
