Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 Nate Pearson = Aaron Sanchez We'll be lucky to get 1 full healthy season out of this guy
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 Any news on Stripling? Oblique injury.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 Pearsono el glasso. Why can't we have nice things? All i want a pen with reasonably Pearson and Merryweather in it. I heard Ben Wagner say Pearson actually has a cold FFS. What next? Whooping cough or shingles?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-blue-jays-are-the-right-kind-of-aggressive/ nice little article on the Jays approach at the plate.
jimedmonds Verified Member Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 would you play it by ear Arb-eligible wise all the way to 2027 with Pearson? What if there was a one-time, take it or leave it offer this offseason: $120M x 12 years. 1) If you're Pearson, do you take it? 2) If you're Shatkins, do you offer it?
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2021 Author Posted August 11, 2021 JB Wendelken DFA'd by the A's in a kind of surprising move. He was fantastic last season and throws heat with a hammer curve. He's suffered a slight velo decrease this season, but I'd be all over trying to acquire him. Doubt he makes it through waivers though. He'd represent an upgrade for most bullpens. Numbers aren't even that bad this year.

Offering $120 million to a starting pitcher who has sustained so many injuries that he's only pitched in the neighborhood of 170 innings in 5 professional seasons? You are joking right?

You are joking right? Ya thats ridiculous. Acuna got 8yrs/100mil so by that logic Pearson should get 8yrs/16mil lol
harvey16 Verified Member Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 With 50 games remaining, the Jays have a decent schedule going forward. 25 games against below .500, including 10 vs the Os and 7 vs Twins. If they can play .700 ball vs them and .500 vs the rest, they have a good shot at a wild spot. Play .600 ball against TB, NYY and OAK and they have a shot to win the division.

Absolutely no reason to try and sign him to any kind of contract until he can prove he can stay healthy enough to produce like 2 WAR in a season. Pearson would be an absolute moron to not accept an offer like that

My man cannot walk to the mound with having some kind of issue and you want to possibly tie up ten million a year for over a decade??? He hasn't even performed at the MLB level yet. What would even be the basis on which that contract offer would be made? At best you could talk yourself into a Ozzie Albies type extension.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 Pearsono el glasso. Why can't we have nice things? Are you forgetting about the rookie who had at best a 50% chance of seeing any MLB time this year possibly being the Jays best starter right now? You gotta see glass half full with pitching prospects.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 This is one of those puzzling moves (like DFAing Ty Tice to get Carl Edwards Jr.) that feels lateral at best. I do not really expect Overton to put up better numbers than Murphy, so it's just exposing a guy to waivers for no benefit, at least not one I'm seeing. Overton's numbers at AAA look worse than Murphy's AAA numbers.
Bluebombers Verified Member Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 Cimber rocking the knickers ala Bo. Also rocking a 0.53 ERA in 17 innings

Murphy wasn't getting it done up here, may as well give Overton a go. There's no risk, only the possibility of a benefit. Might also be a chance they'll try stretching out Murphy to start?
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 Murphy looked hopeless. His stuff just isn't that good. A bit of potential he could be a useful reliever but he needs like, an entire mechanical overhaul I think

I was expecting to see him last night in the 8th/9th. Both of those moves seemed unnecessary at the time, I agree. They'll have to make room for others soon, they'll all likely be DFA'd so it's moot.

He was DFA'd bro, he has to clear waivers for that to happen, I don't think he does, not with those options.
