glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 Thank goodness Kirk is starting. I was dreading Kirk being used as Reese's backup or platoon buddy since Montoyo values service time more than talent, but common sense (at least for now) seems to have prevailed.

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 Why is Reese being paired with anyone? Dude is horrible behind the plate in every facet I can see.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 Reese is a good enough backup (hitting left handed helps there) but there's no way he should be playing over Kirk. And that goes for Jansen too. Now that said, if there are defensive issues and "young catcher stuff" that Kirk needs to work through then I can see sitting him more than your average starter. But otherwise he should be playing.

WONDERBAT Verified Member Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 Service time > actual production. ??? Kirk has been accruing service time for pretty much the entire season minus the week or so he was optioned down. This just seems like a weird deadline kind of move until they can move Jansen/McGuire for something. Might not be the greatest idea to be like Kirk is our full time starting catcher while actively trying to move the other.

RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 I like it. More atbats for springer > more at bats for semein And I guess it makes him happier too. More comfort and all that type of s***. Ultimately who ever bats after vlad is irrelevant as long its sem, bo, teo in some order of the three. They are really interchangeable.

I feel that Bo should be the number 3 hitter and yet I'm glad he's 4th and wouldn't have minded him 5th. A little message to the kid. Quit swinging at garbage. His chase rate is 6th percentile in the league. If he had a bit more plate discipline he'd be an automatic number 3 for me. His bat to ball skills are tremendous, but they are wasted because he can't lay off the garbage.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2021 Posted July 25, 2021 f***... Latest News Jul 24, 5:08 PM EDT EDT Manoah (back) won't return from the injured list early next week, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports. Analysis Manoah had initially hoped that he'd be able to return to the Blue Jays in time to start Monday's series opener in Boston, but he'll instead make a simulated start in Florida on Monday. It's not yet clear when the right-hander will be able to return from the injured list.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 25, 2021 Posted July 25, 2021 If healthy Springer would have hit leadoff from day 1 His injury and Semien's excellence to start the season made it easy to hit Semien leadoff for a while but glad to see him moved to the top now
The Iceman Verified Member Posted July 25, 2021 Posted July 25, 2021 Could anyone explain to me who thought it was a good idea to convert promising SP Ryan Bouricki to a 1 inning RP who is no more valuable to the team than Saucedo? And while we are at it why not hold experienced SP Matz back one day to face Boston, and have Hatch make his debut today?

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2021 Posted July 26, 2021 By "one" source... Bob Nightengale, it was BS clickbait. Nightengale yes, but started by Morosi. But Flaherty and Reyes were just thrown up in the speculation around it. Given JD's value in 17 with a year of control left, I can see why there was that kind of return being speculated upon. Who knows. None of it was ever validated. Made some sense at that time for the Cards/Jays too look at though.
