Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Wild Card: Chris Sale Luckily for us, we'll be done with Boston by the time he makes any real impact, if he does at all this season.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 I'm excited for this upcoming series. While Boston's rotation had an extraordinarily lucky run to start the season, their ERA is well in excess of 5 over the last month and a half. Just last year most of these same pitchers were the worst staff in this history of baseball. It's time for this offense to feast on some of the worst pitching they will see all year. Add a few Baltimore series on top of that and we are primed for quite a run. Boston has been so f***ing lucky this year and it will feel so sweet when they come crashing back down to earth
Bluebombers Verified Member Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Amen to that. Its the jays time
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Really? That would suck since he was one of our better relievers this year (not saying much). I think he was getting lucky a bit. His BB/K rates are kind of meh as well.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Vladdy is going to win MVP! Ohtani made a big mistake in joining the homerun derby. His bat is going to go cold in the second half. lol
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 I think he was getting lucky a bit. His BB/K rates are kind of meh as well. Yeah, he's a low leverage reliever at best, he was really only up because of the plethora of injuries. Which was fine.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2021 Author Posted July 19, 2021 Oh, come on... Hopefully he's okay and doesn't miss any time.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 lol Why is anyone pitching to Ohtani
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Oh, come on... Hopefully he's okay and doesn't miss any time. Curse of the minor league ballpark Goddammit
FantasyNewb Verified Member Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 lol Let's circle back to this "lol" when Ohtani finishes the year at 42 HRs and Guerrero hits 58 bombs.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Oh, come on... Hopefully he's okay and doesn't miss any time. I just came to post this, just brutal. Big series man.

Ray Verified Member Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Obviously I wish it were happening under other circumstances, but at least we have a guy like Hatch stretched out as a starter in AAA. Not the worst potential spot starter. And if he's going to be in the rotation next year, then he probably has to start getting major league starters innings in the 2nd half.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 lol In fairness 1 HR doesn't mean much.

Ray Verified Member Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 I don't know why everybody is expecting Chris Sale to come up and immediately start being an ace. Generally speaking, the first year/season players come back from TJ is a bit of a write off in terms of results. Boston will be lucky if he ends up giving them average production this season.

Not sure everyone is expecting that. Its a nice piece to have coming back. Agree that how he will perform is more likely to be ok than good.

Well the short of it is he's Chris Sale lol. This isn't your average run-of-the-mill starter coming back from TJS. Him at 70% is still a very solid starter.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Well the short of it is he's Chris Sale lol. This isn't your average run-of-the-mill starter coming back from TJS. It's also the 2021 Red Sox. He'll probably come back and pitch a no hitter in game 1 for f*** sakes. These lucky clowns practically s*** gold nuggets.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 In fairness 1 HR doesn't mean much. lol... and 34 does. He is what he is... a Monster!

RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 So 100% chance after yesterday that we upgrade the rotation right? No way Stripling gets more than 1 or 2 more starts.

RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 I'm sure Atkins is working frantically to land a SP by next week yes I sure hope so. Not upgrading over Stripling could be the reason we finish 2 or 3 games back of a wild card spot by seasons end.

How about calling up Axford (2-2 saves, 0 hits in 5 IP), give Hatch a run in the rotation, Stripling to the pen as long man when Manoah is back and trading Kay for a piece.

I'm not convinced Hatch is much of an improvement over Stripling if at all tbh. Really surprised Axford hasn't been given a shot though. His stuff must not be matching the results. Missing Manoah for this BOS start is such a let down, after all that momentum over the weekend to be dashed in the span of like 7 batters last night, now we gotta pray that Hatch can pitch well against a tough lineup in his season debut.
