Laika Community Moderator Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Depends on what you consider worried. Worried that he won't be Top 5 in the Cy Young voting again? Ya. Worried that he's turning into a pumpkin? Not really. He's not going to be a pumpkin immediately but if he is an SP3 at best going forward the team has no shot
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 He's not going to be a pumpkin immediately but if he is an SP3 at best going forward the team has no shot Agreed completely. And I don't see Atkins trading from our Top 6 or so prospects, which means we probably don't get someone like Scherzer or Berrios back to be our ace.
Scion Verified Member Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 I'm not worried yet, and if his struggles are grip related he should benefit from the league using a legally mandated substance next year. His issues seem control related and not spin related which is at least a plus.
Benito Verified Member Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Ryu is going through a bit of rough stretch. It's happened before and he's turned out just fine. I guess with this whole stick stuff, any time a pitcher goes through a rough patch, people will jump to conclusion. Baseball's a long season. Let's just see how his performance continues to trend. It's not like he's been terrible. Looking at his game logs, Houston was his worst start in recently weeks.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 There's the DP ball we needed last night. Chuckles goes with the rookie instead.

Davie Verified Member Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 Vlad Jnr, Semien and Teo are all All Star starters Nice!
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 Teoscar has no business being there but it's good for him I suppose.
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 Did any of those three have All Star Game bonus clauses in their contracts? Any future free agents with the Jays should ask for All Star game bonus clauses since Canada gets it done for voting!
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 Yeah Teoscar really shouldn't be there over Mullins, but happy for him. Great story and he's really developed into a good hitter. Plus, if Canadian fans were going to spam votes, then better him than Grichuk.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2021 Author Posted July 2, 2021 I don't know why everyone is so broken up over Mullins not getting in. All-Star voting has always been a popularity contest and a guy having his first great season on a team nobody is watching is not going to get enough votes to be elected. He's still going to start the game as a fill-in for Trout. Teoscar definitely shouldn't be there but him getting in over Garcia and Brantley is a lot less egregious than getting in over Mullins.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 Need to Win 49/84 to get to 90 = .580 ball Fangraphs = 47% odds we make playoffs. Calling it. More tweaks are made as we get to deadline. We play .560 ish ball. Close but no cigar to wildcard. Plus offense, decent rotation, not great D, s*** pen we couldn't get addressed until it was too late, and a s*** manager who made s*** choices with said s*** pen. Wow! Hope I'm wrong. My heart wants it to be different I'm a die hard, but its math. We have to rely on them going on a major roll, but so many holes its not that likely. Lost another we needed to W yesterday. Isn't going to get easier against the Rays. Odds are now 40%. Not impossible just unlikely.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 Teoscar has no business being there but it's good for him I suppose. No he doesn't. Of those 3 most happy for him as we have watched him develop from his early struggles. Been fun to see him make adjustments in his whole game. I don't know if he is but he seems like a really nice guy. Great smile and way about him.

Seem like a great guy who's worked his tail off to become a legit quality player. Deserved or not, this is a great little achievement for him.

Toronto fans voting in Teoscar is the Toronto fans bitch slappin Brantley for ditching us and re-upping in Houston.

Laika Community Moderator Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 Toronto's popularity upside has always shown well when it comes to ASG voting. When the team is doing well or players are having phenomenal years, they tend to get extremely high vote counts. I think Bautista broke some ASG voting records and then a few years later Donaldson did the same thing. I'm sure this helps a little bit with some free agents, particularly guys like Semien and Ray who are trying to shine for one season.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 I don't know why everyone is so broken up over Mullins not getting in. He's still going to start the game as a fill-in for Trout. Teoscar definitely shouldn't be there but him getting in over Garcia and Brantley is a lot less egregious than getting in over Mullins. I think the reason people are "upset" with Teoscar over Mullins (aside from the obvious - performance) is that Teoscar outside of Toronto isn't a hugely popular player. Trout and Judge are well known. Them making it, even if the numbers didn't justify it (they do), would make sense. Hernandez is just as much a no name as Mullins is so it's easier to question that one. To me, Winker over Betts is more disappointing for the star power reason. Betts is way more known but yet somehow wasn't voted in. Neither was Muncy, so maybe LA fans just don't care. I think the AS game should always be a popularity contest. Baseball needs to showcase their most known and charismatic players. If some no name shmuck was outperforming Tatis, there's no chance I'd want that player in the game over Fernando. In the case of Hernandez versus the field, everyone in that spot is relatively unknown outside of baseball circles, so it can be more of a debate. Either way, as others have said, if Canadians spamming the AS votes help with attracting players here, then even better. It may even slightly override the whole "you have to play in a minor league or spring training park until the end of time" thing going on right now.
