When are Merryweather and Hatch due back?

Merryweather isn't elgible to come off the the DL until end of June. I read he was starting to throw on flat ground this week. My guess is we don't see him until post All-Star break just to give him a little bit of extra healing time and proper ramp up.

Hatch is ramping up in AAA right now. He's gotten up to 60 pitches. My guess is he's available if really needed, but they want to keep him down and stretch him out as a starter.

Merryweather is due back a cpl games before his next 60 day visit! ;)

All joking aside, they can't be back soon enough but just wish Merryweather didn't come with a huge question mark health wise.

That is really bizarre....4th opinion?

Typically people only seek that many medical opinions for two reasons.

1) Their prior diagnoses don't match what they feel. I.E. Kawhi Leonard in SA. Doctors said he was good to go, but he felt something wasn't right physically.

2) They want to avoid going under the knife and are looking for a doctor to prescribe them a rehab plan. I.E. Connor McDavid when he tore his MCL and sought multiple opinions before finally settling on a doctor that prescribed rehab over surgery.

does pearson have recurring groin injuries? If so, 4th opinion can mean overall since he first started dealing with issues in that area.

Which would make lots of sense. They could be looking into investigating why he keeps hurting it. That kind of due diligence is important.

bingo!

Hatch was eligible to come off today, too bad we couldn't see him in to start tonight, but who knows if he was lined up. Nah, he's not ready yet...

Injury Report

Eligible to return on Fri Jul 16 - 60-day IL.

Latest News

Merryweather (oblique) is expected to begin throwing off a mound this week, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Analysis

The right-hander is eligible to be activated from the 60-day injured list since he's been on the shelf with the oblique strain since mid-April, but he still has significant work to do in his throwing program. Merryweather will need to complete bullpen sessions and eventually a rehab assignment before rejoining the active roster, so he may not return until after the All-Star break.

Eligible to return on Tue Jun 29 - 10-day IL.

Borucki (forearm) has been throwing off a mound and is expected to progress to side sessions this week, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Analysis

The left-hander has been on the shelf with a forearm strain since May 14, but he's progressed quickly since recently starting up his throwing program. Borucki could begin a rehab assignment if he continues to avoid any setbacks after advancing to side sessions.

Latest News

Hatch threw two shutout innings while striking out three Friday in a rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Analysis

While Hatch was statistically effective in this outing, he needed 51 pitches to get through two frames, which put him at his pitch count and ended his night. He will likely need at least one more rehab start before he could be an option to join the big-league rotation.

Too early for a trade deadline hype thread?

He made it very clear that there is plenty of payroll room available to add significant pieces.

I'm excited to see what Atkins and the baseball ops guys have in store for us this year.

Did you listen to it, which Show was it on?

They most likely have him on a schedule to ease him in. Also Chuckles needs himself some Panik.

Being a DH sounds like a good way to ease into things. Just sucks not seeing him out there working off the rust.

Would you rather take chances?

Of course not, thought him being a DH would have been the plan to ease him back into things. Montoyo said he's available off the bench so don't see a huge difference in just being a DH

Would have thought Gurriel would be the backup 1B (or Biggio??) with Tellez gone. Guess its Panik though lol

How about an Alejandro Kirk update. I heard he was Dhing 2 weeks ago at extended spring training games. Is he close to playing in AAA games? Edited by saskjayfan

That was his last update, he's likely not running with the hip, no rehab games yet. He's first eligible July 2nd so that isn't happening.

Panik's the backup at every position even though he can only play one. When you're that professional, it's hard to keep you on the bench.

When I glanced quickly at your sentence I thought Dhing said 'Dining'. That would've checked out.

Panik seems fine at first base from what I have seen. Defense isn't really the problem.

McGuire worth 0.8 WAR this year. Twice Grichuk's 0.4 Reece rockin' a 127 wRC+

I know he is hot and that won't last, but lets face it we can use the LHH bat. Jansen has been a neg WAR player who simply never got hot even for a short stretch. How nice is it to not think the bottom of the order is a complete black hole for a change?

His 1st round pedigree shows itself every so often.

Steven Matz has cleared COVID-19 protocols and rejoined the Blue Jays.

Advice: He's still on the injured list, but the good news is the southpaw is back with the club and was able to throw 60 pitches in a Buffalo on Thursday. He's expected to return during the three-game series against the Mariners next week.

Jansen has two options remaining according to FG, so keeping Reese and (hopefully) starting Kirk when he gets back is looking like the likely scenario.

I don't get the feeling that Kirk will be ready anytime soon. Reese could fall right off a cliff again with the bat. Too early to know how things will shake out.
