Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 I won't be angry if it happens or anything, I just don't think they built the team to win it all this year specifically... Getting Bo enough reps to be a decent-to-great SS is probably part of the plan to work towards that title in the next few seasons. Why would they sign all these players in the off-season then? They're(FO) definitely hoping for the PS. I understand the other stuff as we're still in transition.

And I simply meant they didn't build this to be the PEAK team, this is moving towards the PEAK team.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 Of course, and I simply meant a top 6 projected ball club can win now as well, lol. But I think the benefit of trying to develop Bo into a decent SS outweighs trying to win it all this year.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 Nobody is arguing that this team is destined to win a WS or that this is PEAK Toronto Blue Jays baseball lmao The team is clearly built to win more games than they lose Should the team be content with Santiago Espinal at 3B for the rest of the year since they aren't planning on winning the WS?

Exactly, PEAK team is waiting on a couple of prospect pieces, particularly from the trio of Pearson, Manoah, SWR. One of the more interesting thing to follow this year is who they use out of the bullpen, it's clear to me Shatkins wants to develop a bullpen using the plethora of fringe No. 5 starter arms they have. It's too bad Merryweather got hurt just when he looked like closer material.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 + Martin to play 3rd.... Yes, although I hope he is developed and used to play all over the diamond, this would maximize his value.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 + Martin to play 3rd.... Groshans could also be an option there...

WryNGinger Verified Member Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 The last two offseason's they have brought in guys with winning pedigree. Players like Simeon even on a one year deal get the culture of having high expectations for each individual's performance and team goals ingrained in the younger players. Also having older guys who have had success and are fighting to regain their performance levels is huge for a young team to realize you can't take s*** for granted. I like the culture of the team right now. A good balance of bravado, sage advice and comradery. Sucks that none of that ******** makes able to hit the f***ing ball when they need to... 👍⚾

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 Christian Colon! To provide some context to this random utterance...
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 To provide some context to this random utterance... I pictured him saying that while doing what's being shown in his avatar pic lol
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 Whenever someone laughs at somebody pointing out the leadership and professional qualities a veteran player can bring to an organization my immediate thought is that guy was always picked last in gym class. Zero clue on what a winning culture actually feels like. If you don't think the type of person these guys are affects how some teams view them as a free agent then stick to reading spreadsheets and parroting Fangraphs.

I will say that when the only qualities you can mention are those intangibles that exist for sure, they most often suck on the field/court. It is a nice way of a person saying the player provides 0 tangible skills lol.
jerb Verified Member Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 Scott Carson @KOAS1963 If #BlueJays Randal Grichuk hits a HR this series, it would end a record streak: his last 23 HR have all come against divisional opponents, the longest such streak in MLB history (since divisional play began in 1969)
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 So it looks like Jonathan Davis will be sent down today or when Springer is back? The intriguing question is who will be sent down when Teo is back within a week?

Vetrins who are good and can bring something to the team are phenomenal to have around. Vetrins who post a wRC+ of 75 with declining defensive value are not. Vetrin Presents is a board meme about the latter type of player. Nobody, anywhere, is saying "ONLY YOUNG PEOPLE WITHOUT EXPERIENCE SHALL PLAY!"
