xposbrad Verified Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 Brantley at 2/32 would have been decent value, but if we had to add a third year then I'm not upset. It's a lot to offer when a guy at a position where we don't need help. We can always pivot to another DH type if they find a nice trade for one of our outfielders or Tellez. Rosario should cost less, is still only 29, has big pop, and can play the field if needed
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 Rosario should cost less, is still only 29, has big pop, and can play the field if needed I'd actually prefer Rosario on a 1 year deal to Brantley on a 3 year deal if we end up needing some LF/DH depth.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 What? Brantley isn't a pure DH, he's rated as above average by DRS and UZR the past two seasons. Signing Cruz gives us zero flexibility in shuffling Teoscar, Vladdy, Tellez, and any players with nagging injuries through DH. Cruz would probably only require a 1 year deal and is a vastly superior hitter, however. Certainly worth the flexibility loss. f***ing dude put up 2 WAR in 1/3 of a season strictly with the bat, he's a f***ing freak. Kids, the moral of the story is: do steroids while you're young.
EdwinsParrot Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 Eh not the worst thing. Still lol at these reports. Went from he signed, to he was never even close to signing lmao.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 Turner wouldn't 100% shock me, there's no way those other 2 are signing here. I can't see Rogers spending that much after Springer I tend to agree. I don't see it happening based on Rogers history. But I expect that they'll keep trying to come up with a contract that's palettable. I hope I'm wrong though and they're actually ready to go balls deep.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 I love Brantley, but can't say I really care that he's not signing in Toronto. I think it's hilarious all these "insiders" got exposed though. Selective leaking to find the mole. Lol Considering the Springer saga, this could be true.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 People really need to stop immediately jumping to conspiracy theories. It would be very simple to leak numbers that were very slightly different or something subtle that wouldn't make everyone, including the team, look bad if they really did want to hunt for a mole.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 What is the difference between Teo and Rosario? Marginal upgrade.

I know I was just saying it in jest, not sure about L54
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 A key takeaway from this Brantley incident is that we have at least 16 million left to spend. That may have seemed like a given, but it's nice to know.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 Can't say that I really care about this one being false. The transaction action was just exciting but there are more efficient ways to spend the money.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 How many ex Astr*s do we want on this team anyway Lol
Key22 Verified Member Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 Phillies offer to JTR is $110/5 ($22m a year) JTR wants to break the $23m AAV for catchers. He's younger than Springer and he is an elite catcher. If the Jays were in the ballpark of Brantly $16m a year then I think they should be all in on JTR. $125m/5 This is $15m more (or $34m) than the Phillies offer which is nothing to sneeze at. You then have Jansen as trade chip. JTR makes more sense than another OF. Unless you're bullish on Jansen - I am not - I see him as a league average catcher at best - and he can't hit. JTR's don't come around every day.

No it’s exactly what happened. I confirmed it with my source

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 He should just take the Phillies offer FFS. Is anyone else even bidding?

Good SP aren’t available often and when they are, there’s always going to be lots of competition and the chance they like the other teams players more than yours.

Jays are rock solid at C for years to come. I think the idea is to get a vastly better catcher who can actually hit the ball (Jansen is a mediocrity at best) McGuire is a P.O.S so if you want to win it is a good idea to get good players. But he's young and may get better. We have Kirk but Kirk is a bat only player. Then maybe you package Jansen with others to get a top of the rotation pitcher. So it's not just JTR but it's JTR + whoever you get for Jansen. Maybe you make a blockbuster with the Reds Jansen, Biggio, Tellez, Groshans, + for Castillo Gray Moustakas Suarez (Take on all the money) 2b and 3b now covered. Ace covered, #3 covered and JTR - one of the best 3 catchers in baseball. WS win. Go get it done - video game trading.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 This is pretty disappointing I was actually more excited about this signing lol. I can’t remember the last time we had a good high average and high on base percentage lett-handed bat. Frank Catalanotto? Either way we got Springer and that’s f***ing awesome. But this entire lineup is right-handed outside of Biggio. Brantley would have been the perfect fit. Also meant no more Shitbruk.

Why won't we sign Tommy La Stella to play 3rd instead? 2 year $14M with a club option maybe? He gives you about 90-95% of Brantley's bat, is a big time contact hitter from the left side and plays a position of need. 2 years younger and won't cost near as much. TLS needs a platoon buddy, but I still think he's a good fit.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 Wow back to the Astros? Ross got hit with the folding chair! lol

It's honestly comical at this point that people get their hopes up when they hear Jays "rumors". Springer isn't signing in Toronto
