The rule didn't change. Tyler and his cheater friends made decisions to cheat, and they carried risks like this whether they appreciated it or not

Pitchers were told before the season that the league was going to crack down on foreign substances. Now they did and pitchers are complaining? They have had plenty of time to adapt. The midseason argument holds no water at all. Blame does rest entirely with the players that are cheating and didn't stop when they were told that the rule would be enforced.

You don’t want to see anyone get hurt,” said Washington Nationals Manager Dave Martinez, who indicated he hopes the sport can strike a balance between allowing pitchers to maintain grip without gaining too large an advantage over hitters.

 

“I’m more about keeping guys healthy,” he added. “When you get a guy throwing a 100-mph fastball and can’t hold on to the baseball, that kind of gets scary for a hitter and everybody.”

 

If experienced MLB people have been raising the safety issue, chances are its a real concern.

I'm just saying that it's probably a bigger safety issue using over not using. Genesis Cabrera had stuff on his forearm when he hit Bryce. Same when Pillar was hit. Vince V when he hit that pitcher too.

If all of that is true, then Glasnow hurt himself because he decided to cheat. Everyone knew coming into the season that the league wanted to crack down on illegal substances. He had plenty of time in spring training to prepare. The only sympathy I would have is if he was pressured to do it by the team.
