Ugh. Definitely looks like he stuck the elbow out to get on base.

He said to Bregman at 3rd base, "dude he got me with a slider on the elbow, I can't pick the baseball up here"

Yeah

I watched it and heard analysis on MLB network

He probably just thought it was going to be a ball and that it wouldn't hit him (until it was too late to get out of the way)

Either way it sucks if he misses any significant time

So Anibal Sanchez throws harder than Aaron Sanchez now eh

The guy legit throws poo now. 88-90 with a change and curve. This is TANNER ROARK level stuff.

Fascinating. Teams so far must just be confused after looking at the old scouting reports.

His arm slot looks a lot lower, am I remembering poorly?

Very low walk rate though. The dude reinvented himself into a finesse control pitch lmao

Like many great pitchers have done, evolve from power to finesse.

Yeah we got the version who threw 98 but walked too many and couldn't keep his fingertips healthy

Lol in that video he gets 2 (arguably 3) called Ks on balls way out of the zone.

I'd want to see like two years of success before calling it an evolution. I think he just has nothing and is getting lucky

Just trying to get something going here mate.

We need another long Sanchez debate.

Sanchez' pitch mix is drastically different. He's cut his fastball usage in half and is throwing way more curveballs and sinkers.

His fastball was always his worst pitch but like others have said I'm not sure that he can keep this up at this reduced velocity.

I also remember that with the Jays it seemed like his curveball would cause him to break a nail. That could be something to watch out for as well.

He threw 50% change-ups last start. He obviously has nothing. The Giants do seem to squeeze every last drop out of SPs nowadays.

Watch them get 5 WAR out of Alex Wood, DeScalfani and Sanchez this year before flipping them for prospects at the deadline.

Current Jacob deGrom is the best pitcher I've ever seen.

I was just going to say something like this. If you prorate his 2020 to 33 starts or whatever he's going to have like 30 WAR in four seasons by the end of this year. That's a Sandy Koufax level peak. The four season stretch will be Hall of Fame worthy itself.

It's f***ing insane. He's out there tonight throwing 101 in the 7th with a wipeout slider, an unhittable 90 mph change, and pinpoint command of all three pitches. And he's looked like that three starts in a row. Is prime Pedro the last pitcher who looked this dominant?

Pedro, Clemens, Johnson. Pick one.

It definitely feels like Degrom is a level above peak Verlander or Kershaw or any other Ace from the current generation

I think you guys are really selling Kershaw short here. 2013-16 Kershaw had 30 fWAR and 31.7 RA9-WAR since he's always outperformed his DIPS. Peak Kershaw wasn't pumping 101 in the late innings like this freak of nature but he had two of the best breaking balls in MLB history with even better command so I think peak wise he's definitely there with deGrom, if not better. 2016 Kershaw was in the midst of putting up a 9+ WAR season.

With that said I don't think I've ever seen a starter with stuff this outlandish in my lifetime. If deGrom had this stuff coming out of the bullpen with no extra added velocity he'd still be the best reliever in the game easily, that he's able to do this for 7+ innings at a time is unheard of.

You are right about Kershaw I guess as far as results are concerned, which is really what matters, but the stuff is just so insane that Degrom feels better. I guess that's why he feels better.

In hindsight I think that's why I said "feels better" instead of is better

Yeah I can't disagree with this. Visually deGrom appears like the most dominant pitcher I've ever seen. However, peak Kershaw had maybe the best slider in history, a wipeout curve and pinpoint command of all his pitches, and with the benefit of future knowledge we know that his fastball-slider tunneling was basically untouchable.

Also deception brownie points from his stall delivery

Haha... I'm sooo glad I'm a lucky owner...

Visually, I've never been wow'd by Kershaw - but you can't argue with the results. Due is insane - but I agree deGrom is insane. I told someone today that he's prime Pedro right now.

Dude is a HOFer. He has to be.

Can we get some appreciation for Jed Lowrie? Back from the dead - hasn't played in 2 years. wRC+ of 153, 0.8 WAR so far this year. The A's are on some kind of a f***ing role - and personally, I love it.
