I think that MLB should just adopt the Banana Ball rules the Savannah Bananas played with this summer. (As shown on Jomboy
)

1. Every Inning Counts.
The team that scores the most runs in an inning gets a point.
The first team to five points wins the game.
The inning is over once the home team takes a lead or three outs are recorded on the home team.

2. Two Hour Time Limit.
No inning will start after the two-hour point. If a team has not reached 5 points, the game will go to a Showdown Tiebreaker

3. No Stepping Out.
Batters cannot step out of the batter’s box once an at bat starts. If batter steps out at any point, it’s a strike on the batter.

4. No Bunting.
Bunting Sucks. Enough Said.

5. Batters Can Steal First.
If a pass ball or wild pitch happens during any pitch of an at-bat, the batter can take off to first.

6. No Walks Allowed.
If a pitcher throws the fourth ball it becomes a Sprint. The hitter will take off sprinting to first while the catcher has to throw the ball around to every defensive player on the field before it becomes live. The hitter can advance to as many bases as he can before the ball becomes live. The ball does not have to touch the catcher or pitcher.

7. One on One Showdown Tiebreaker.
Each team picks one pitcher and one hitter to face off. The defensive team only has the pitcher and catcher on the field. All other fielders are off the field. If a hitter puts the ball in play, he has to score and make it home to get a point. If the ball is put in play, The pitcher is allowed to chase the ball and throw the ball to the catcher for a play at the plate. If a pitcher strikes him out or gets him out before scoring, he doesn’t get a point. If the batter walks, he can take second base and the hitting team will bring another hitter to the plate.

First team to reach 5 points wins. If the score is tied – the first team to keep the other team from scoring wins.

8. No Mound Visits Allowed.
Let’s keep the game moving. No mound visits from the coach, catcher or any other players. Hype your pitcher up from afar if needed.

9. If a Fan Catches a Foul Ball, It’s an Out.
Why not let the fans get in on some of the action?

So you think Trevor Rogers outdueling Corbin Burnes was a snooze fest?

yes I do. Very few balls in play is pretty boring baseball when it happens on the regular.

A K at a big moment is very exciting. A K every other AB is boring to me.

There was 25 K's in the Marlins v Brewers game yesterday. That's pretty close to half the outs in the game recorded by strikeout.

That doesn't sound like exciting baseball. Bring back the BIP!

So at what point do just stop caring about pitcher's duels? When Jacob deGrom pitches a complete game with 15 strikeouts and no walks is that boring because the ball was hardly put in play? Corbin Burnes who has turned into an elite pitcher dueled with Trevor Rogers, who might also be very good, for 5 innings, they combined for 16 of these 25 strikeouts, and Burnes actually started getting BABIP'd in the 6th inning for a bunch of singles which turned into runs.

I can at least understand why people aren't fans of every reliever coming out of the bullpen throwing mid-high 90s with a devastating breaking ball - although these guys all being good is far overstated - but when it's two good young starters going head to head and dominating opposing lineups is that a problem too? The Marlins scored 8 runs!

When the batter squares to bunt, the ball is called dead. The opposing team gets to pick one player to beat the batter with a tire iron.

In case it wasn't clear, they played real games with these rules last summer with fans in attendance. Very gimmicky but thats the whole Savannah Bananas brand. I would love to attend one of these games, I am sure it would be a blast.

Playing for 3 true outcome ball might be the way to produce a winning team. Not saying its "bad". I just don't think it makes for the most entertaining product.

Playing for 3 true outcome ball might be the way to produce a winning team. Not saying its "bad". I just don't think it makes for the most entertaining product.

This is why they should shrink the strike zone. You'd still get to see the aces ace because of their superior command and filthy stuff. But the guys that get K's and can't locate would be pushed out.

I mean, if we just get to have Vladdy be our guy every day, then it's an obvious advantage to the Jays, but it's a horrid idea.

Also, who is the pitcher? 'cause like, if it's your BP pitcher or something, you're literally competing against your own team...

In case it wasn't clear, they played real games with these rules last summer with fans in attendance. Very gimmicky but thats the whole Savannah Bananas brand. I would love to attend one of these games, I am sure it would be a blast.

MLB may as well try this if they are never going to go back to regular extra innings. MLB fans overwhelmingly dislike the currently used gimmicks and this isn't much different. Maybe it would increase ratings.

#6 changes the game completely, utter chaos. Ball 4 becomes a triple in some instances, if not a double. Batting averages will go up tremendously as pitchers are forced to throw strikes. ERA and runs/game will shoot up drastically and the entire wRC formula needs to change.

#7 means every tie game you’ll have to face Vlad jr or Mike Trout with no infielders or outfielders behind you. Good luck

I like watching extra innings.

My mistake. I thought you supported the new extra inning rule. It artificially shortens games, so you don't like watching extra innings by default if you support it.
