The Padres aren't f***ing around. Let me guess.. the Jays made a "Very Aggressive" offer.

Musgrove? No one is going to lose sleep over not getting him. We need a #1 or #2 not another back end starter.

Well maybe on the Padres rotation. Right now we need that plus an ace!

Plus a 3B, CF and BP help... haven't you been banging Paxton's drum all off season, there's not much difference there, bro.

I'd rather have Paxton..lol. I just want anyone at this point really.

I'd rather sign Paxton or Tanaka for pure dollars than trade prospects for Musgrove

Agreed. The prospects are more valuable to us right now than Musgrove's cheap contract is.

You guys missing something on Musgrove, or is it me? Id take both of any of those 3 to be fair. Musgrove is pretty good, folks.

He is good. And he's gotten better every year. I just want the Jays to spend some readily available $$ and save the farm if possible.

Musgrove's curve and slider had a massive jump in movement last year with almost no change in velocity. Interesting.

Probably using a new product for grip.

They gave up Head the only guy really significant, a lottery ticket in Cruz, a reliever at best in Bednar and I have no clue who the other dude is, Birds have that capital and some for a fairly young Musgrove, or is he not on the IL enough, bruh? lol

Jeff Passan

@JeffPassan

Left-handed starter Jon Lester and the Washington Nationals are in agreement on a one-year deal with a mutual option, pending physical, sources familiar with the contract told ESPN.

After a phenomenal six years in Chicago, Lester off to D.C. to join Scherzer, Strasburg, Corbin.

No reason to give up a significant prospect if we can get an equivalent SP on the FA list. The only real benefit to Musgrove is the contract, and that's not an issue for us atm.

Perhaps - although you're getting Musgrove's prime years, instead of getting the declining stage of Tanaka, Paxton, etc. (assuming no Bauer). There's a chance Musgrove has another level.

I'm with you Spanky. I like Musgrove. Who's our equivalents to what the Padres gave up?

Moreno, Hatch, Diaz and Young... something around there. And I feel that beats the offer easily, seems they want Kirk from what I've read.

Silly rabbit... wow.

Yeah. It all depends on whether the Jays can convince free agents to take their money instead of someone else's. Seems to be a problem with some of them.

I know Kirk is a little further along, but I wonder if the organization values Kirks a lot more than Moreno. The weight has to be a concern.

Yeah, there is a chance. I don't think it's even clear that Musgrove is a significant upgrade over Lucchesi though, and they're paying a lot of prospect capital on top of that. I guess it largely depends on whether the enhanced breaking balls hold effectiveness over a full season and what the reason is for the difference, which is information we don't have. SD clearly believes.

You could flip out Moreno with Hiraldo or Kay/Kloff... Jays seem deadset on the Captain's bat.

Apparently the Reds asked the Yankees for Gleyber+ in exchange for Luis Castillo. People may as well forget about that idea. It would likely cost us Bo or Vladdy and then some.

Yeah. Wsh we could have traded for Darvish and then signed Paxton or Tanaka.

Castillo could be worth more than Torres I suppose. Way better in 2020.

Yeah, maybe. It sounds crazy until you look a little closer. I think I'd still prefer the everyday bat though. 2020 was screwy for a lot of players. I wouldn't put too much into Gleyber's weird numbers last year.

One one hand, it would’ve been nice to get Musgrove to be a solid mid-rotation guy with some upside.

On the other hand, we have a better, if not, more established version of Musgrove in Ross Stripling.

I’d like to think we’re aiming higher. Paxton will sign for not that much more than Musgrove is making, and he has a chance to be really f***ing good assuming he stays healthy.
