Charlie Zoom - said he and Ross Atkins spoke with Vlad today and the focus was on trying to become a Gold Glove 1B. Said the door to 3B was never closed, and remains open, but that Vlad will play more 1B. Allows him to move Biggio around, get guys rest, have more versatility, etc

It's just sound physics. Skinnier players hit more flyballs. That's why you never hear someone say "lazy flyball"

Only when it's hit by a fat guy.

Hilarious story on MLB Network this morning

Brian Bohanon Mets pitcher in the 90's was getting overweight in the off season and bet his teammates he could lose 30 lbs before spring training. He paid $8000 for liposuction to win $15000 in bets with his teammates

Lmfao wow

He looks fine now. He's a big guy. Kevin Mitchell was a big guy. Miguel Cabrera is a big guy.

We want him to be a big guy. Hypothetically per 162

Morbidly Obese Vlad - .260 24 88 ground ball rate = 62 because hard to get swing right while morbidly obese

Stocky lighting cat Vlad - .320 37 118 ground ball rate = 47, swing mechanics much better

Way too skinning Vlad - .290 19 80 ground ball rate = 47, swing OK, but now not as much strength behind it

Optimization is the key.

I'm so f***ing ready to watch Vlad post a .322 37 118 season.

As exciting as that sounds, are we confident that the more svelte Vladdy won't have a high GB rate anymore?

No, not at all.

No

He had some mechanical adjustments to make no matter what his weight is/was

Looks in great shape!!

Now he just has to get rid of the spaghetti hair and he's good to go

Sure is looking great. A fit Vlad is almost as exciting as all our FA add this winter.

Can't wait to watch some ball this spring!

He and Tatis seem to be on the same page hair wise...

I was just watching some Vlad 'highlights' from last year, man he looked awful and not just his weight. He just continuously smashed s*** into the ground all throughout the year even as he dropped some weight as the season progressed, not to mention his defensive capabilities at first and just overall 'baseball iq' was straight up terrible.

It's so frustrating as you can see the talent in terms of raw power and plate discipline are there and probably as good as anyone in baseball. Hopefully 2021 he really takes a step forward and fixes his launch angle, and it is good to see that hes taking his weight more seriously.

Not worried about his bat because he was an above average hitter even with the body of the fat dude from 90 day fiance. The problem is his baseball IQ out on the field is so terrible I'm wondering if he can even be a passable first basemen at this point.
