Maybe a Castillo and Suarez and Moustakas and Gray mega deal. Taking on considerable dollars and freeing up the Reds of considerable dollars may lighten what we would have to return.

Vlad and Biggio + and + I dunno but that would probably be the major league pieces they would want back and Manoah and Groshans might be the next two.

Nah, I'd much rather go after Castillo alone.

If the Jays are going to swing a trade with Cincinnati I'd rather target Gray personally, the acquisition cost will be much more palatable. Castillo is likely going to require emptying out a chunk of the higher ceiling prospects from the farm system as well as subtracting young talent from the major league roster.

Alternatively Jake Odorizzi is available as a free agent. He doesn't project as well as Gray, however his last healthy season in 2019 was very similar in value provided to Sonny Gray's 2019 season, and he's likely to require a similar contract to what Gray is signed to presently. And an added bonus is that the Jays can keep their prospect base fully intact as well. Odorizzi had his fastball improve several ticks from 2018-2019 and that looks to have been sustained in his injury shortened 2020, so he has potential to bounce back nicely.

No, common sense.

So why'd you ask, if you know FFS's? Both can play 3rd but defensively Didi is far better and he has a cannon, long known in the MLB is his defense and arm are great, the bat is gravy, leave Cavan at 2nd he's fine there. Two other guys replied to you, why no snark? Also, Laika I'm not in that "noodle arm" group, that too is absurd. ABC's of ball, lol.

Because I do not know who's arm is stronger, Cavan's or Didi's. I suspect it may be Didi's, but I was looking for metrics, FFS. Not the "shortstops typically have strong arms" trope. Don't get so angry when people react to patronizing comments. Toughen up or stop making pandering comments that will elicit reactions that trigger you.

That’s a good signing for Boston. I would prefer Richards over looking at Walker and a one year commitment is perfect.

You would have to think that at some point in would be in Richards best interest to switch to the bullpen. However he's a guy who's pitched less than 200 innings combined out of the last 5 years as a starter, and still obtained a $10 million guarantee, so I can see why he would continue attempting to start.

Even more so, Chris Archer. Some team would be smart to get him to agree and sign as a bullpen piece.

Earning starter money has to be nice for sure, but at some point you would think guys would get tired of constantly rehabbing injuries instead of being on the field competing.

AGREE, and the Gray acquisition cost would be offset taking on the big salary of 3B Moustakas. Owed $14, 16, 18 million with a $4 million buyout. Would fill 2 needs though.

I wouldn't want anything to do with Moustakas and his inflated contract, that's a serious hand grenade. What in the actual f*** was Cincinnati thinking when they handed that out? If you're lucky Moustakas provides 5 or 6 wins over the remaining length of his deal, there are far better values to be had in free agency this year.

It's probably bad value, but they have the money to spend and could get a prospect at the deadline if he is healthy and performing.

They had the worst pitching staff in the history of baseball last season (by WAR) so something had to be done.

Once again, common sense. It's all I said to you. You quoted my post in reply to Keggy, again, why no response to him or Laika who insinuated your question was absurd(which it was). What's patronizing about "common sense"? If anyone needs to toughen up it's you, meat.

Because your posts are generally more idiotic. And you were the most pandering. Mate. And you keep bringing it up. Stop fixating, and go back to giving non-insightful basic answers to questions that are more complicated than you think they are, but for anyone else but me.

Go f*** yourself, douchecanoe. Don't flatter yourself, moron.

Wonder what the prospect cost would be for the Hendricks/Bryant package

Would it be similar to the Lindor/Carrasco package? Although I'm not sure of Hendricks contract status so that would obviously impact the return heavily. Lindor > Bryant, Hendricks > Carrasco

3 years 14 per year on Hendricks....player vesting option for a 4th year at 16 if he finishes top 3 in Cy young voting.

Talks were more likely due diligence than actual substance I suspect.

But if we were runner ups in the Lindor/Carrasco trade then why wouldn't we be seriously involved here? It fits 2 major needs and we wouldn't be looking at a 300 million dollar investment here.

Well my mind drifts to the possibility that Grichuk is actually moved when it would more likely be Gurriel.

Springer

Bichette

Gurriel

Bryant

Vlad

Tellez

Teoscar

Biggio

Kirk

Ryu

Hendriks

Pearson

Paxton

Ray

It's best not to think about those possibilities....lol.

Who's to say the Jays aren't seriously involved? The trade also has to be reasonable, it'll be expensive.

Think you responded to the wrong person. I said we should be involved if we were involved for Lindor/Carrasco. Only makes sense as long as the cost is reasonable.

Ya I think Gurriel would be involved and lesser quality prospects.

Springer

Bo

Bryant

Skinny Vlad

Teo

Tellez

Grichuk

Jansen

Biggio

Biggio can also be moved to 6th with Grichuk 7th and Tellez 8th to split up the Lefties. I like the idea of Biggio setting the lineup up for the top of the order.

You are correct, I read it wrong, my bad. I'd love for that to come to fruition.

Rumors have it that the Jays refused to include Gurriel in a potential Lindor trade, so it seems unlikely they'd include him in a trade to the Cubs.

I'd rather trade for Bryant alone and eat his salary. Return is probably really small at that point, after his down season.

Send them Tellez as the return for eating the contract. See if that works.

Then sign Pax & whomever of Tanaka/Odorizzi you can get for 1Y.

High payroll for 2021, but those 3, Ray, Roark, and BP pieces all come off the books in 2022. Hopefully at that point, Pearson & one of SWR or Manoah has established that they're ready to join the rotation, and Martin & Groshans are ready to join the lineup. Then you're left with below and can address the rest via FA in 2022, with that elite veteran SP class.

Rotation:

1. Ryu

2. Pearson

3. SWR/Manoah

4. FA/Trade/Depth SP

5. FA/Trade/Depth SP

Lineup:

1. 2B Biggio

2. SS Bichette

3. RF Springer

4. 1B Guerrero Jr

5. LF Gurriel Jr

6. DH Hernandez

7. CF Martin

8. 3B Groshans

9. C Kirk/Jansen

Lineup is solidified and only need to raise the floor for it via bench signings. Grichuk will be the 4th OF unless he has a decent season and can be traded. And the only adds to do are SP and the BP.

This is obviously only possible if Martin Groshans & one of SWR/Manoah prove themselves of course. It's entirely possible none of them do in 2021 or only 1 or 2 of them succeed.
