No idea why the Jays place less importance on who bats 3rd, maybe there's some analytical reasoning behind it. I feel like they've made some weird decisions on that spot in particular a lot of the season (Jansen, Tellez when he was struggling, Shaw, and for some reason I vaguely remember Villar in that spot). Whatever. At least the right guys are playing.

There is data to support that the 3rd spot is less important than 1-2-4-5. I think the main reasoning is that the 3rd hitter most often comes up to bat with 2 outs and no runners on base in the 1st inning.

Me too

And by exclusion, no Shaw

Shaw will likely play in all 3 games. This is all hands on deck, full team effort. I can see him coming up with a big hit against a guy like Chaz Roe.

I saw this before and ignored it because I thought it was sarcasm. There is no way you can say batting 3rd is less important than batting 4th/5th lol. If your top 2 hitters are good, you shouldn't be coming up with no one on and 2 outs. And this would only be the situation once to start the game.

You can think whatever you want, but the data says that the 3rd spot is less important (slightly) than the 1-2-4-5 spots.

Kirk is 100% not catching Ryu when Jansen who's been with him since ST in February/March still can't get on the same page as him.

Kirk is a pitcher whisperer, though.

Not saying your claim doesn't have data supporting it from a high level, I'd just rather have my best hitters get as many At Bats as possible.

I'd also like to ensure my number 2 hitter gets as many good pitches to hit as possible too. That doesnt happen if your number 3 hitter isn't good. We wouldn't want teams to pitch around Bo. Not sure how that gets quantified by statistics.

Teoscar 6th seems questionable. Best performing hitter for a while. Third best projected hitter by Depth Charts.

Nice protection for Vlad and LG though

And he can get on base for Kirk. It does "lengthen" the lineup.

It's not a big deal. Really just would prefer him and Grichuk flipped.

Also Villar should hit 9th.

Agreed, Villar batting 7th doesn't make much sense.

Yeah, flip him with Grich and I'm content.

Yeah, Villar batting seventh doesn't make sense. Kirk and Jansen will give you better AB's, plus mix in the fact that Villar could act as a secondary lead off hitter batting ninth. If Teo is up with first base open, he's going to see nothing hittable.

The games will be in Prime Time... South Korean Prime Time... At least they can cheer on Ryu at night.

(edit: it will be middle of the night South Korean Time, it will prime time in Europe)

Middle of the night?? Try 6AM in the morning for Seoul.

Those who rise early are in luck

I was up at 6 this morning because I couldn't sleep I was so excited. I'm sure the people of Seoul can get up at 6 for an actual game!

This post was made before the schedule was released and the reasonable assumption was we would get a noon or 1 pm ET start time.
