Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 I believe the next round is a best out of 5. If that is the case then we NEED Ryu to start game 1 so he could start game 5 as well. I think there's a big layoff after the wild card round to get into the bubble so maybe Ryu will be able to pitch twice in that series if required. The Texas bubble is going to get really interesting if there's a major hurricane that decides to make its presence known.

If the Jays made the ALDS and Ryu started Game 1, he'd have to pitch on 3 days rest to come back in Game 5. No way that happens. He'd start one game in the DS. That's likely the Jays reasoning here. He can only start once in the WC round, and he apparently prefers more rest, so as long as he pitches one of the first two games, that's all that really matters. Just have to fluke into a Game 1 win.

Wow. Not even a one day break in there?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 Wow. Not even a one day break in there? That's something I hope they keep in future years too. All the off-days completely changes the game from the regular season.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 (edited) Wow. Not even a one day break in there? No breaks in any of the playoff series, only in between. ALCS/NLCS/World Series will be 7 games 7 days in a row if needed. EDIT: Apparently the WS will have rest days. Edited September 29, 2020 by Stangstag
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 Wow. Not even a one day break in there? I think the World Series might have breaks in between games, but not the WC, DS, or LCS.

All the off-days completely changes the game from the regular season. Yeah I think same for basketball and such too. Games off every other day, sometimes two days between games. Maybe there’s a middle ground though

Dokken Verified Member Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 If the Jays win game 1, and then have their ace, Ryu, starting in game 2, they are in the driver's seat. It seems like a good way to go for a team that is big underdogs (literally none of the 'experts' on MLB Network are picking them to win). If only we had my boy Ken Giles to close those bastards out (given the opportunity).
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 10 games this year vs Rays 4-6 record 8 of the games won by 2 runs or less 4 went extra innings (pretty sure) Jays outscored them 48-44 This isn't the NBA where the 8 seed has zero chance against a 1 seed and usually gets swept

Like I posted, if Jays win game 1 today, the Rays will be on the ropes. But finishing them off is MUCH easier said than done!

Why am I filled with nervous energy and excitement? Why did I spend the last hour watching Blue Jay highlight videos. f*** Tampa! Let's go Blue Jays!

Doesn't seem a very diverse group.. Only one Latino and the rest a bunch of Crackers: Lance, Larry, Paul, and Chris, sounds like a Bowling league team. Good thing we have a Caucasian guy pitching tonight, but I am sure our Latinos will get discriminated against at the plate and on the bases. #Whiteprivilege to have four white men holding the playoff future of a bunch of young Latinos and blacks in their hands! #@MLBDIVERSITYNOSALTINECRACKERS
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 No Angel Hernandez, Joe West or CB Bucknor. There's other bad umps aside from those three but certainly a positive that they're not involved in this series.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 Playoff roster for the series released: Notable Omissions: Yamaguchi, Roark, Joseph, Romano Notable Additions: Tellez, Davis, Espinal, McGuire I can only assume Anderson is on the roster to soak up innings in case of a blowout. Either of Murphy or Romano (dependent on health of course) would provide nice power arms out of the bullpen.

Don't wanna get too much into the "next series" but you never know how many pitches Ryu would throw in game 1. Pitching in game 5 would only require 1 less day of rest compared to the usual. I doubt teams will use a 5 man rotation for the Divisional series.

What about for Game 2 when Jansen is behind the plate, does Kirk start over Tellez?
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 wasn't expecting Rowdy, good to see. Was his status updated recently and I just missed it? either was Spanky! I really wanted Romano there though. I'm guessing if we somehow get through he hopefully will be there next series.

He'll probably start game 1 or 3 behind the dish, Jansen takes the other 2.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 My game one lineup: Cavan Bo Lourdes Teoscar Vlad Tellez Kirk Grichuk Villar They will likely DH Kirk and keep Rowdy on the bench though. Rowdy was pretty good against lefties this year, but only 1 for 10 against Snell in his career. I'm fine with whichever direction they go really. Having Rowdy on the bench for a right hander later in the game will be good too.

Cant expect him to rake right away. Biggio Bo Teo Gurriel Vladdy Grichuk Tellez Kirk Villar But knowing how Montoyo likes to space out his lefties and rightness, id expect Tellez 6th, Grichuk 7th, Villar 8th and Kirk 9th.

I expect Tellez hitting 3rd because Charlie is dumn. He plugged both Bichette and Teoscar back into their usual spots and never moved Guerrero down past the 5th spot even when he was hitting like shite
