Funky Verified Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 We get a Flier for nothing. The guy could get bombed or throw 6 innings with 14 strikeouts. We just got Villar. Hope that makes people happy. Some speed for us

BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Junior isn’t wrong, he just expected more from Shatkins. Fans were hoping for Clevinger and Lynn, and ended up with Ray. So you can’t blame him for being a bit underwhelmed.

What a bunch of f***ing morons on here, yeah saying a pitcher with a 7.84 era and 2.00 whip is outrageous and should be criticized that makes sense, no matter what kind of idiotic moves this team makes 99 % of the homers on here think it's the best thing ever.

Ignoring advanced pitching metrics and then calling other people "a bunch of f***ing morons" when they correct you is an interesting play. Have you ever considered the likely possibility that you are a f***ing moron, and not those who correctly pointed out that you are cherry picking and using antiquated stats to make what you wrongly consider to be a point?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Career era 4.25 career whip 1.375 if that's good to you your standards are pretty low. Meanwhile the Padres trade for Clevinger.. the difference between a team actually going for it and a team that will be happy if they secure the final playoff berth Most would suggest that selling the farm to 'go for it' as the 8th and final seed isn't the best decision. I guess you disagree.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 We get it. You don't like the trade and have little to no concept of why the Jays would make a low risk, high reward move like this. It's pretty evident to everyone (except you) that there's a very high probability that Ray sucks and doesn't help the team this year. However, there's also a chance he regains previous form and can really help them down the stretch and into the playoffs. At the cost of Travis Bergen, this is a risk you take. A fine trade and since we didn't spend anything to get him, we should still be in on Lynn, right?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 A fine trade and since we didn't spend anything to get him, we should still be in on Lynn, right? Absolutely - at the right price.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Absolutely - at the right price. I’m hearing Texas wants one of our catchers. Maybe Alejandro Kirk.
JuniorFelix54 Verified Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Now Villar is a good pickup, so was Walker, Ray is pointless. What do they have to lose? Uh Every game he starts.........

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Manoah, McGuire and a wild card. I'd trade Manoah, McGuire and a wild card for Lynn.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 A fine trade and since we didn't spend anything to get him, we should still be in on Lynn, right? Rays fan site said Texas turned down Xavier Edwards and a top 15 pitcher. Take it for what it is worth as it is a fan site

You said he's a scrub, the majority of his track record shows he very clearly isn't. Despite your small sample numbers.

PhillyBlueJay Verified Member Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 I think Robbie Ray is your power lefty out of the bullpen. This is where the Jays Brass know they will be in most games but need shutdown relievers for 6-7-8 innings. You will see him leveraged in an approach of coming right after hitters and throw down the middle hoping he hits the plate! I think the Jays Brass see most games and playoffs will be decided by power arms and shutdown bullpens!

He's a pretty good player who's had a rough start to the year. The 2 guys I really wanted were Lynn and Bauer, and neither were traded. I was very pleasantly surprised we got stripling.

Somehow sneak into the playoffs, have a frustrating manager and win games with a shutdown bullpen.

Nobody here is acting like Ray is the second coming of Randy Johnson just waiting to be unleashed, but this is a very low risk high reward kind of move. They can hide him in the bullpen and have him throw side sessions to see if they can get him sorted out mechanically, and if he manages to smooth out his command issues he has potential to be a nice addition to the bullpen or rotation. It cost all of a reliever that wasn't good enough to make it on a terrible Giants squad so there's zero reason to get so worked up about this.
EastCoaster Verified Member Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 Robbie Ray is coming to Blue Jays as a starter in the rotation how it works out is to be seen Pete Walker's reclamation project for this year.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 Ray sure looked good tonight. He's a little wild, but you wouldn't know he was having serious command issues. I hope we see more of that going forward.
