I would give up Kloffenstein in a heart beat for Bauer.

For 5 starts of Bauer in a season that may not even finish? That's terrible asset management.

A top 30 prospect according to whose list lol? MLB.com has some pretty s*** non prospects in the top 30.

My guess is Will Robertson.

Both part of the 60 man pool.

Ah. Didn't consider that.

Leonardo Jimenez then?

Watch it be Orelvis Martinez...just cause the Jays want to hurt me.

Yeah "top 30 prospect" does not mean they are good. It could really be anyone. A prospect around the 30 mark is basically interchangeable with the next 30 prospects.

It could be an IL player like Yennsy Diaz or Hector Perez.

Well, I think the season will finish and Kloffenstein has not pitched all that well in the independent leagues this year. I'd use up his prospect capital before it evaporates

Great acquisition in my mind. Also doesn't take us out of any other bidding as far as I can tell.

Will be interesting to reexamine when the PTBNL comes out.

Could be a name like Chad Spanberger that'll be going back, or maybe Forrest Wall.

I like this deal a lot for the Jays, assuming that the player heading back isn't anything special which I doubt it is.

With 8 teams we should be able to make the playoffs unless we just totally s*** the bed somehow. One way to do that is for us to be forced to continually trot out too much replacement level trash (or worse) on a nightly basis. I would love to see a couple more moves like this, particularly to replace the Drury's and Panik's of the team.

I'm fine with this move as well. He has upside and I'd love to just punt either Drury or Panik off the roster and give Kevin Smith a chance to see what he has.

Only fans that don’t follow the farm system would say this.. The organization is very impressed with Kloffenstein and even Baseball America thinks he’s not too far from top 100 status. If Kloff went to college, he’d be a middle 1st round pick.

Forrest Wall is on the 60 roster.

Chad Spanberger is not even in the Blue Jays system anymore lol. Hes with the Brewers.

Normally I'm against giving up good prospects for rentals.

But, this has been an average team this year that is almost certain to go to the playoffs. The most likely outcome is that they make the playoffs in 2020 and don't make the playoffs in 2021 when things go back to normal. It's very, very tempting to go pair Bauer with Ryu and go in guns blazing with maybe the best 1-2 starting pitching punch in baseball. I think I'd give up Kloffenstein for Bauer.

It would be tempting. It would really shore up our playoff odds and then give us a fighting chance once we get there.

The only problem is how unstable this season is. If we got hit by a Covid outbreak or something that could take key players out of the lineup for 3 weeks. Hate to give up something good and then that happen.

I'd hope you aren't remotely serious about a barely 20 year old pitcher being washed up because he struggled a bit in the independent leagues against players who are likely 5-10 years older than he is.

I still think it's too early to trade Kloff. We don't know what we have in him yet. Next season after he has an OS of development and gets a season in Dunedin, we'll have a better idea.

AA would probably do a deal like that in an instant but not Atkins.

Um...it's 21 games in a 4 team round robin Indy league with a bunch of other minor leaguers who are in AA/AAA and out of his age group. Dalton Pompey isn't even hitting .100 in this league and he was a major league player at a time.

Yeah, I don't care about giving up a maybe prospect who may or may not be good in 2 or 3 years for a chance to get one of the best pitchers in the game this year for a chance to win this year.

You play to win the game!

I wouldn't be sad, just saying. ;)

He likely demands a higher prospect, though.

Trading a good long term asset for a .500 team to gain 6 starts is absolute insanity. If Bauer had control beyond this year I could see building a package including Kloff for sure, but I just can't see the Jays are close enough to actually competing in the playoffs for that to be a wise move.

They wouldn't be paying for the 6 regular season starts so much as they would be paying to have a legit ace in the ~70% likelihood that they make the playoffs. Ryu and Bauer starting 2 of 3 WC games and then 3 of 5 division series games makes the Jays competitive in the playoffs. I don't see Kloffenstein as the kind of prospect you balk at moving when the team is running very high playoff odds with a few weeks left and has Ryu healthy and throwing well.

.290/.356/.500 over almost 10000 PA's. Connor is hard to impress

Ah for the Mets. My bad. Skimmed it. I thought he was almost HOF type so the .780 OPS in the article Surprised me

I just don't really get the feeling that this team is quite ready to actually compete in the playoffs, a huge chunk of their best players are still basically rookies, and prone to rookie style mistakes a good chunk of the time. If they manage to squeak into the playoffs due to the expanded format that will be awesome, but I just find it really short sighted to send out high potential prospects for rentals in this point of their rebuild.
