Scion Verified Member Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 We need a legit bat, Grichuk and Teoscar as your 2nd and 3rd best hitters isn’t enough for a lineup looking at playoffs. Go get a difference maker that can drive in runs with RISP. Panik should never play again, he can’t even lay down a bunt. Kirk is also a massive upgrade over McG offensively, guy can’t even hit his own weight. He has a .107 OBP and -23 wRC+. He can’t even sac fly a runner from third base. You can live with one black hole in the lineup, we have way too many. Biggio is on an island out there without Bichette. Even with Bichette back, a bonafide bat in the lineup shifts everyone down a peg. They either have to add or promote from the farm. Screw service time manipulation. Whoever you call up now you get 7 years of control. We don’t need to own everyone until they’re 35 and ready to retire. If you want that much to keep your players 8 years from now then pay them! This isn’t a cheap budget org like the A’s or Cleveland. I want to believe the front office views upgrading the offense as a priority, but it seems every time they are pressed on areas they want to improve it is the rotation that gets all of the focus.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 I know for a fact that he would be open to playing here longer term as well, but only if he is the SS.. Care to elaborate?
Scion Verified Member Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 Care to elaborate? There is nothing to add.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 I know for a fact that he would be open to playing here longer term as well, but only if he is the SS. I doubt he will lower his market value by playing 3B when he is still a capable defensive SS. I view him as a rental. I would be open to him replacing shaw if he was willing to play 3rd. He probably wants a longer deal than I would offer. The phillies are now 9 and 14. They only play atlanta and Washington prior to the deadline. I'm just not sure what the asking price for gregorius might be.

Particularly when defense at SS is their primary selling point on the open market. That said, if the Jays traded for him he wouldn't really have a choice for this season.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 There is nothing to add. Just curious why you would say you know for a fact he would want to stay long term. That’s a fairly bold statement. Even though he would not have a long term home at SS here.

I don't really see a big deal with letting him play short and moving Bo to 2nd for a month. Wouldn't want to do that longer term, but in a rental situation it's fine.

Apparently I cant say without the post being deleted, so let's just say I have a good feeling that he would be open to it if the dollars made cents.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 What would it take to get Boegarts? Apparenty he gets a full no trade protection as of Sept.6 so they may quietly be looking to move him. How much of a discount would you get for taking on Eovaldi and his albatross contract? Very unlikely to happen, but interesting to keep an eye on Boston.

You know that Mods can see that you are deleting your own post saying that you know Didi. If you have insider information we would love to hear it

Very unlikely to happen, but interesting to keep an eye on Boston. That thought actually crossed my mind. I would have no issue moving Bo to 3rd and Boegarts to short long term. Boegarts has 6 years left at 20 mil. That's a pretty friendly contract considering he's not yet 28. I'm sure the Red Sox would ask a fortune. Groshans would be one piece that goes back. They would be asking a lot more though. I'd be interesting to see what people think it would take to get him. Just Boegarts their initial ask is probably Pearson, Martin and Groshans. With Eovaldi Groshans one of Manoah or SWR and one or two lower level prospects? I wouldn't do the first deal, but with our payroll flexibility I would do the second deal. Boston would get crucified by the media and fan base if they traded Boegarts so it's not likely anyways. Fun to think about though. I didn't realize Boegarts had an opt out after 2022. That significantly reduces his value as he's almost certain to opt out. I actually think he's a target you could get if you took on Eovaldi. I would still give up one of Groshans, Manoah or SWR and a lower level prospect or 2. Edited August 23, 2020 by saskjayfan
Scion Verified Member Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 Did I delete it? I tried to edit it and then it disappeared so I thought it was deleted by a mod. If it was me I apologize, but yeah he is a family friend and has told me directly that he would enjoy playing here if it ever worked out that way.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 Someone kindly post this I'm going to do you a favour and not post it. The author is an idiot and the content is bad bad bad.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 Someone kindly post this It’s Jim Bowden. Probably better off not reading it.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 Does anyone remember Jim Bowden twitter fiasco a few years ago where he said a bunch of dumb s***. Deleted his account because he was so embarrassed and then some random person stole his twitter handle and started trolling him. Good f***ing times.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 We should at least be checking in with Boston if they are desperate to sell.
