Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Tonight's lineup (not a typo): 1. Gurriel 2. Grichuk 3. JANSEN 4. Hernandez 5. Vlad 6. Shaw 7. Drury 8. BIGGIO 9. Espinal Montoyo might be the worst manager in the history of sports, nevermind just the Jays franchise or MLB. Every team sport ever played. Lmao
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 "trying to get Jansen's bat going" "I like Biggio to get on base and turn the lineup over" Biggio must have insulted Charlie to his face! Charlie's infuriating. I think he just throws their names in a hat and picks them each day for the lineup.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 The only logical explanation is Biggio plowed Montoyo’s wife. I honestly can’t think of anything else that makes sense. That’s where we are at.

That has to be a typo or a mistake. No one could be that stupid.

Your dream of Borucki starting might happen. The pitching equivalent of this move is using Borucki as an opener and Ryu as the bulk guy.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 What you guys said, plus putting Gurriel and his unrivaled ability to get on base at all costs at the top of the lineup. Nice work, Charlie. You've truly outdone yourself with this one. Wew!
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Jansen's statcast numbers are better this year but he can't hit 3rd. Cash is probably laughing at this lineup. He's going to pull Yarbrough after one time through and Fairbanks, Castillo, Anderson, etc. are going to nuke the top of the lineup. Rays should just have Chaz Roe start. Let him face the top 6, all righties, then being in Yarbrough.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 I don’t understand how people this dumb work their way up to the very top of their profession. It’s really quite remarkable.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 They should just keep the camera on Montoyo's face for the entirety of those 6 windmill ABs. Their ratings are already low man.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Biggio .467 on base percentage against lefties this season and his 5-12 career line made me feel pretty confident he could battle against Yarbrough.

Good move. The extra 0.6 of an at bat given to Jansen instead of Biggio will cost them about .03 runs. However Jansen has missed 2 at bats of development time when bunting and the extra at bat will make up for one of them.
WILLIEUPSHAW Verified Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Tell me the won-loss record of the jays starters. that'll tell us how good they are. i'd love to hear all about it. Yeah clearly the starters' W/L record has much less direct relationship to the pitcher's actual performance these days. At least quality starts give them credit for doing a decent job, regardless of run support and bull pen performance. A perfect example was the other day when Ryu pitched , as I recall, 6 solid innings and left the game with a nice lead only for Bass to blow a 3 run lead in the 9th (at least Bass didn't get the W, not that a W helps much for a late reliever). I think I posted on another thread the Jays had a good chance for a PS berth if the veteran starters pitch well and carry them, like in 2016. That year, as I recall, the Jays starters combined to lead (or be right near the top of) the MLB in innings pitched, quality starts and combined ERA. Of course even ERA can be a much less than accurate barometer when you have defensive issues (plays that should have been made) and sometimes just plain bad luck (like the 1st inning yesterday). At the end of the day , I guess FIP is a good measure although it does favor strike-out pitchers. P.S. - nice try to make me look dumb - better luck next time:p

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Today might be the worst managed game I've ever seen in watching the jays for 15 years This looks like a close game developing. The .15 runs Charlie has lost us might matter in this one... How do we start the firing?? Do we call up customer support at Rogers with a complaint about one of their employees??

It's more about the unneeded long term effect on the bullpen...data does not factor that in.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 I thought shatkins were supposed to be analytical and smart? Did they get duped by Charlie in the interview? And how was Charlie able to muster up the intelligence just for that interview?

And how was Charlie able to muster up the intelligence just for that interview? They only hired him cause he speaks Spanish and can connect with the young Latinos. They clearly underestimated how much like I am he actually is. There was a reason he was a minor league manager for 15 f***ing years.
TheDragon Verified Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Montoyo is really earning the name Montardo... this guy is the f***ing worst, even dumber than Brad Ausmus
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Break out the bongos boys! Montoyo’s bunt wins the game and extends the win streak to 6. Extend Montoyo!

glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Do they allow ten year extensions to managers? They should in this case.

WILLIEUPSHAW Verified Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 The only thing that got extended today was my dislike for this man. If the Jays win a WS with him at the helm, will your dislike for him spoil it for you ? If not, then no worries. If so, then re-evaluate your priorities..... J/K
