Hey look, that poser Mason McRae was wrong about Martins bonus. Who would have thought

Nice. Now put him in CF and call him up in 2021.

Shortstop. Infielder first. You can always put him in CF if the infield is full.

I think if I did the math correctly that leaves $454,000 for Nick Frasso if they go to the limit with the 5% overage allotment.

Slot value for Pick 106 is $549,000.

This regime's draft planning and execution is absurdly good.

They have signed EVERY Top 10 round draft pick they have made. Every single one.

I think he’s always wanted to try shortstop and he was a great third baseman at Vanderbilt. Nothing wrong if he ends up at centerfield though.

Shatkins continues to kill it in drafts.

For sure. Biggio in the fifth round and Kloff in the third round is super underrated.

And I believe Farrell is the 3rd scouting director to oversee a draft since Shapiro was hired (Parker -> Sanders -> Farrell). It hasn't seemed to hurt them in terms of quality of drafts, which is great, although a special thanks to the Orioles for gifting Martin to us. Between the drafting and international scouting over the last few years, the Jays are set up very nicely.

I was worried KC would take Martin and we’d end up with Asa Lacy. Without the benefit of hindsight, I would’ve much prefer Zac Veen if KC took Martin, and they’d have the pool $ to go with another big signing at #42 such as Jared Jones (2.2M), Jared Kelley (3M), Masyn Winn (2.1M), or Cole Wilcox (3.3M). But I much prefer Martin, this was best case scenario for the Jays.

How do you feel about C.J Van Eyk? Especially compared to those other names that were available that you just mentioned.

Where the Shatkin haters at?

I’m not sure what anyone can point to in their regimes as “major” blunders.

The return for half a season of Happ?

Morales free agent signing?

Solarte for Edward Olivares?

The biggest I can think of is not trading Donaldson for Flaherty. Projections may have said otherwise, but I think it was a foregone conclusion that we weren’t gonna make the playoffs in 2018 with the Yankees/Red Sox being super teams. A 1-2-3 of Flaherty-Ryu-Pearson would be unreal to have right now.

Didn't the Flaherty rumour get disproven, or at least the timing of it?

Van Eyk was a great value pick (talent relative to signing bonus), especially if you consider that he could have potentially gone much higher had COVID not shut the season down. He seems to be fairly underrated by message-board standards and I'm not sure why - there's some obvious control concerns there, but he flashes 3 plus pitches and plus pitch metrics.

Did it? I don't think I read anything disputing the initial report. Then again, it was by Bob Nightengale, so you could be right.

I wasn't a big fan of Liam Hendriks for Chavez as we gave up someone who had 3? years of control for someone who had 1. I know Chavez was projected to be a #5 SP and may have filled depth, but didn't make too much sense.

Hopefully the Stroman trade points to this FO trading players sooner than later and learning from the Donaldson situation. Outside of the Stroman trade, their trades are still a bit lackluster, but maybe I am just more use to the 'BOOM-OR-BUST' AA trades of the past.

Saw a report that due to losses, teams will be more eager to dump salary this offseason, using prospects as the carrot. Will be interesting to see if the Jays go this route or the FA route.

Toronto had the type of draft that makes smart/modern fans drool.

Martin - possibly the best, most well-rounded player in the draft

VanEyk - pitch metrics are great. who cares about the less than ideal height.

Palmer - pitch metrics are fantastic. who cares about the beefy reliever body.

Frasso - upside from a stuff and size perspective. who cares about the arm injury scare.

Can't complain. Some in the industry see him as a borderline first-round talent. I probably like him more than SRF and Zeuch. He was on my list of college pitchers to target for pick #42. OK college track record, decent analytics, no major injury risks yet. Good makeup™ . The Jays didn't have the pool money to pursue any high-risk prep guys.

There were a couple other college players available but CJ Van Eyk was a fine choice.

WITH benefit of hindsight and knowing what people signed for (they obviously didn't have this luxury), they could've went with Zach DeLoach (1.73M), Chris McMahon (1.64M), Daniel Cabrera (1.21M), Clayton Beeter (1.2M), just based on the guys I had on my day 2 list. But I think Shatkins really likes Van Eyk.

Looks like the numbers are now official per Shi (https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/austin-martin-makes-blue-jays-history-signing-bonus/)

Martin gets just over 7mil (7.08mil) and Frasso signs for 90k under slot (459k). I figured that the number would be 7mil. It made a lot of sense based on the numbers we were seeing from the other deals and shows a commitment to Martin and the value he brings. I'm glad they got a deal done (relatively) quickly and got everyone signed. Plus, you can't complain about the money because I think we got fair value for everyone and got a steal in Martin at 5. I also think that speaks volumes for the way the Blue Jays young core is seen and the organization as a whole.

Does Frasso have the worst agent ever, or was he taken when maybe he shouldn't have been? Who signs for $300 under slot, and almost immediately?
