Let's pass the time by taking a page out of Tom Stone's book and come up with our own all-time rosters for the Blue Jays.

Starting lineup:

1.2B Roberto Alomar (22.3 bWAR with team)
    2. 1B Carlos Delgado (36.8)
    3. 3B Josh Donaldson (19.5)
    4. OF José Bautista (38.2)
    5. DH Edwin Encarnación (25.3)
    6. OF Vernon Wells (28.7)
    7. OF Jesse Barfield (29.5)
    8. SS Tony Fernández (37.5)
    9. C Ernie Whitt (19.3)

On the mound: SP Roy Halladay (48)

Bench:

    Infield: 1B John Olerud (22.6), 2B Aaron Hill (17.1), 3B Kelly Gruber (16.1), SS Álex González (9.7), C Pat Borders (4.3)

Outfield: Devon White (22.3), George Bell (21.3), Lloyd Moseby (26)

    Utility: Fred McGriff (19.4)

Rotation: Dave Stieb (56.8), Jimmy Key (29.6), Pat Hentgen (26.6), Roger Clemens (20.3)

I'd swap Bautista and Wells in the outfield and Olerud and EE in the infield (or Olerud and Delgado if you're treating util as DH). Aside from that, everything else looks pretty defensible.

IMO Russell Martin blows Pat Borders out of the water and even has a case to be a starter though I have no problem with Whitt taking that duty. Osuna also has a strong case over Mark Eichhorn although I never realized how good the latter's 1986 season was while never starting a single game.

Yah, good catch, Orgfiller!

Completely forgot about Russell Martin. I even had Darrin Fletcher over Pat Borders for a bit, but left Pat in out of WS legacy/longevity, but Martin is definitely better than both.

I would probably put Rance Mulliniks ahead of Kelly Gruber, but it's close and depends on the criteria.

Not trying to get too technical but are we only basing this off of their tenure here or are we including players like Rickey Henderson and Roger Clemens who played for us but only for a short time?

That would make for a heck of a rotation:

Halladay

Clemens

Stieb

Morris

Niekro

Henderson played 44 games for the Jays and was s***. I think for this list you're looking at their performance while on the Blue Jays. If we aren't, then Frank Thomas is our DH.

If they are putting JD on the team, than Martin should be there behind the dish.

Is it just me or are All-Time Blue Jays teams incredibly non-controversial? Just find whoever has 20+ WAR at each position and plug them in.

I'm going to use a limit of two full seasons in a Jays uniform as a cutoff. Given that this was Clemens' tenure here and he is an uncontested yes on these lists while guys like Thomas, Winfield, Henderson etc. are frowned upon.

Replace Gonzalez with Scutaro. I just can't have such a s***** hitter on the all-time list.

I really wanted to replace Hill with Damaso Garcia but I was shocked to see how little WAR he actually racked up over his career. So instead I'm going to cheat a little and put Paul Molitor there.

A great case was made to replace Borders with Martin and I'll go with that too. Honorable mention to Zaun as well.

It's a testament to the strength of the first base pool for the organization that Fred McGriff doesn't qualify for a full time first base spot. He put up 3 years in a Blue Jays uniform with WRC+ of 156, 156, and 157.

Alex Rios and Shannon Stewart are the only two who get consistently snubbed on these types of lists. A testament to how damn good Blue Jays' outfields have been. The good old days.

Yeah Gonzalez edges him out in overall WAR but he played 7 seasons with the Jays and Scutaro played 2. I would take Scutaro.

1B, OF and SP seem particularly strong. Probably RP too?

I know the criteria but Shawn Green should be in a position to make this list. Stupid Cito. Jose Cruz Jr. Doesn't get a mention either.

I'd also put Brian Tallet in the bullpen just because.

Strong being a relative term. Not exactly competitive with the Yankees' all time roster. An interesting exercise would be to compare this team to expansion cousins Seattle. Without thinking too hard on it, they'd probably dominate the position player side especially the OF and the Jays would dominate the pitching. Jays might match up pretty well against all the expansion teams.

Once you get past the top 5 players for the Mariners they have a precipitous drop-off after that. Can't argue with 4 surefire hall of fame quality players at the top though.

Jays seem to have more overall depth but less sustained superstar level production, some of which is simply due to star players being moved out of the organization while they were still highly productive. Think if players like McGriff, Alomar, Olerud, and Delgado would have been with the organization for a longer period of time.

That's not surprising considering the Mariners started their franchise with 14 consecutive losing records. By the time they had won more than 85 games, the Blue Jays had already done so 11 consecutive times and won 2 World Series. That franchise was truly embarrassing and wasted the primes of Ken Griffey Jr, Alex Rodriguez, and Edgar Martinez. Since then they have mirrored the results of the Jays in a lot of ways. A few highs surrounded by mediocrity.

If 2 seasons is the cut off, I believe Jeff Kent had 2 seasons as a 2nd baseman for the Jays

Kent played half a season for us in 1992, and he was only decent. He wouldn't become HoF caliber until he got to the Giants several years later. No reason in including someone outside their prime.

I think Seattle would smash us. Pitching wise we do probably have the edge because of the two Roger Clemens seasons. Otherwise they have Randy Johnson to matchup against Doc and then Felix and Stieb are probably similar. For position players they have A-Rod, Griffey, Edgar, Beltre, Vizquel, etc.

But by that definition of two season, David Cone would also be eligible.

Two FULL seasons. On the roster from April to October.

But yeah Kent's name crossed my mind when trying to replace Hill on second.
