Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Seems like a lot of people hate the powder blues but I quite like them. The red ones are the absolute worst, we don't wear those anymore do we?

intrigid Verified Member Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 There's nothing wrong with the generation 1 powder blue as alternate throwback jerseys. People loved them because it was sweet relief from the generation 4 black jays. Although at this point I would prefer to see the generation 2 (world series years) as throwback alternates instead.
EMK19 Verified Member Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 I’m indifferent to powder blues; I accept them as a part of our early history and didn’t mind us wearing them for flashback fridays in the past. As long as they stay a non-primary option I’m alright with it. We do have a habit of wearing the alternates more than our primary jerseys though so I have a feeling we’ll see these new ones out on the field quite often this upcoming season.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Canada Day. I love the powder blues, reminds me of when I started watching baseball. Canada Day it's fine but we used to wear them every Sunday and I hated that. Just awful. Would rather wear the T-Birds all season than that.

People loved them because it was sweet relief from the generation 4 black jays. Although at this point I would prefer to see the generation 2 (world series years) as throwback alternates instead. I remember we wore the 89-96 home jerseys once circa 2010 or so (I recall it was a Ricky Romero start, some kind of 92/93 commemoration day), sans the matching pants... loved seeing the return of it at the time. But the difference between that and our current jersey is so minor that I doubt we’ll see them again on a regular basis anytime soon. I’m just glad they brought back the white panel cap to bring our current jerseys even more in line to those days. Our current ones is really the perfect balance of our traditional design with some touch of new. Canada Day it's fine but we used to wear them every Sunday and I hated that. Just awful. Would rather wear the T-Birds all season than that. I think it was part of Canada 150 celebration to wear them every weekend for the 2018 season and IIRC we eventually scrapped that plan because we went on a Sunday losing streak with them on/players didn’t really like it either. I mean, I get that “Canada’s team” thing is big part of our marketing overall but honestly, red (and the black) needs to stay at most a sub-colour for a team named Blue Jays and things like Canada day jerseys really needs to be limited to being worn once a year. As for Canada day jerseys go I actually didn’t mind the white jersey/red accents version... since the red wasn’t as in your face. Edited January 17, 2020 by EMK19
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 I hate the red jerseys, it's an attempt to sell the team as the Canada jays. Also hated when the Raptors went away from purple for red.

The red ones are the absolute worst, we don't wear those anymore do we? I actually like the powder blues as well, assuming they're used sparingly. And I also want it to be the pullover. It would be nice to have one without buttons. I'm thinking it's going to be the black with blue detailing, though. As for the red jerseys I'm fine with them only on Canada Day, and only because they stopped weirdly putting "Canada" in place of where their name should be on the back. f*** that was stupid.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Seeing the Blue Jays wear red jerseys is one of the most horrendous things in sport. f***ing camo is easier on the eyes. I really doubt they would make the hashtag #NewBlue if it was a black jersey. I think the black stuff was just for some of the promo materials, to make the lighter blue pop (kind of faint on a white background). I could be wrong.

KennerKid Verified Member Posted January 18, 2020 Author Posted January 18, 2020 What do you guys think? Hope they aren't worn every game. But on a 2 times a week basis I like them
KennerKid Verified Member Posted January 18, 2020 Author Posted January 18, 2020 Wonder if the Matte helmets will be worn with the home whites
Rusty_Savage Verified Member Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 Wonder if the Matte helmets will be worn with the home whites What's a matte helmet?
KennerKid Verified Member Posted January 18, 2020 Author Posted January 18, 2020 What's a matte helmet? It has that non shine finish to it.
43211234 Verified Member Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 Not too much of a fan of those jerseys. They're Ok I guess. Something different for an alternate look. Love the matte helmets though.
KennerKid Verified Member Posted January 18, 2020 Author Posted January 18, 2020 They're wearing the powder blues on opening day. Will be worn home and road. Sounds like as much as the players want. Man.. just wear the home whites as the primary brand. Thats a great look
Sorrow Verified Member Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 I loathe the powder blues. I hated them originally, hated the revamp in 2008 and dislike them again now. Would have preferred another toothpaste T jersey.
EMK19 Verified Member Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 (edited) I’m fine with the Uniform itself as it’s in line with our inaugural ones, except I wish they’d put Toronto instead of Blue Jays. Maybe the letter colours may have been better in reverse? Nonetheless it’s ok, not something I’ll buy but not hard on my eyes either. Not a fan of the powder blue in the cap at all though. Why add the powder blue to the cap? It looks like one of those off colour fashion caps made for kids. Our standard white panel cap or entirely dark navy cap would have been just fine. Slade Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 I like the matte helmuts and hate everything else. The players get to choose so hopefully we are just wearing the regular blue and white jerseys most of the year.
EMK19 Verified Member Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 (edited) Another minor detail: it seems that our new alternate helmets are entirely dark navy blue; that I like quite a lot. Not sure why they had to differentiate the cap like that... There were also some very minor changes: we have swapped our primary and secondary logos (previously our primary was the classic Jay-in-a-ball with “Toronto Blue Jays” letterings around it, and secondary was just the blue jay logo itself; now its been swapped) and the shade of red has changed to such a miniscule degree that absolutely no one noticed. Good summary of it all here: http://news.sportslogos.net/2020/01/18/blue-jays-unveil-new-powder-blue-uniform-tweak-logos-for-2020/ Edited January 18, 2020 by EMK19
EdwinsParrot Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 Theyre fine honestly. Could certainly be a lot worse.

Beans Verified Member Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 Surprised no one's mentioned the primary and secondary logos being swapped... I like the powder blues, but prefer the primary logo of the past few years.

Actually, I’m not even sure how exactly the usage of primary and secondary is differentiated... I’m assuming primary would obviously be exposed more but not sure of much else. At least they’re keeping the team name/Jay head on ball logo around though, for whatever that’s worth.
