I'd be fine with any of Darvish, deGrom and Bauer winning it. Burnes may have been the best on a per inning basis (although he's gotten very lucky on homeruns allowed) but will have a lot fewer innings than the others in an already short season which I think should count for something. I think I'd give it to deGrom again, he's IMO the best/most dominant pitcher of the group and having a 3rd consecutive Cy Young would be awesome and totally deserved.

If I had a ballot it'd be:

1. deGrom

2A. Darvish

2B. Bauer

4. Burnes

5. Lamet

I think my ballot would look a lot like that in that I'd probably have those top 3 guys in the top 3 and Burnes and Lamet 4/5. The top 3 are so close for me that the narrative of deGrom getting his 3rd consecutive CY would probably influence me to vote him first. I don't think anyone could criticize a Bauer or Darvish pick though.

It's kind of crazy to see guys like Max Fried sitting at 7-0 with a 2.25 ERA and Kershaw at 6-2 with a 2.15 ERA and they aren't even in the conversation.

Bauer for me. All are really close so looking for ways to differentiate them is tough but bauer beats them all in xWOBA. He even beats Bieber in that category. He might even have 1 more start sunday

I've been wondering about Bauer on Sunday. He started on 3 days rest for the first time this season yesterday, and was dominant. The Reds might want to keep him on that schedule for the playoffs. If he gets to 80 innings and everyone else is in the 60-70 range, that should matter.

I'd include Burnes in that top 3 (so top 4)

Not sure why he's being overlooked here.

To be honest, I'm not in love with Fried's K/BB rates, but his contact quality has been superb and after watching his starts that's probably no fluke, though ironically it came in a season in which he's decreased his curve spin relative to the league so it could actually be influenced by luck/randomness. I love that Kershaw is elite again, best pitcher of our generation.

It's crazy to me that Kerhshaw is only 3 months older than deGrom. I perceive Kershaw as a grizzled old man getting by on his vetrin wiles, which is pretty far from reality.

Innings. Here's the innings a 3rd time through the order for the top candidates:

deGrom: 14 IP

Darvish: 18.2 IP

Bauer: 20.1 IP

Burnes: 7.1 IP

Burnes is also the only guy who hasn't started each of his games. It's a short season, so I'm gonna cherry pick. He has the worst K-BB% of the group - not by much mind you, but we are splitting hairs after all - and no amount of "lol xFIP is a dinosaur stat" is gonna make me believe that he isn't getting lucky on homeruns allowed when last season he suffered the exact opposite fate with the same stuff and similar K/BB.

Alex Gordon officially retiring.

Man I remember when he was touted as the next George Brett. He put together a really solid career. He has a lot of similarities to Biggio (slightly lower BB%). I'd love to see Biggio reach Gordon's peak years.

It was an interesting career for sure. Came up as an elite bat first 3B prospect, and settled in as one of the best defensive OFs in the game. Really salvaged a solid career when it looked for awhile like he would bust.

Clevinger has a sprained elbow, and the Padres won’t know until Sunday or perhaps at the beginning of next week whether he’ll be able to resume throwing this season, according to Acee.

Like I said in the other thread, probably the 14 team format that was rumored before.

What’s he say about Buffalo? That Rogers is so s*****, playing at a minor league field is almost preferable?
