glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 It's only a matter of time before all MLB teams follow the Brewers lead and quit playing. But unlike the NBA who will just make the games up and collect the same paychecks anyway, MLB probably can't so the players will actually forego money. Which means the MLB boycott will probably last about a day or two at most. I would imagine any MLB boycott lasts today and maybe tomorrow, but not beyond that. The NBA is different because they are in a bubble, and there is talk of some players wanting to go home.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 They have officially boycotted. Mariners are about to follow and I’m sure this Jays and Red Sox game will sometime in the next 10 minutes as well. Easy for the Jays and Red Sox to boycott on a night they are expected to be rained out anyway. This is so bizarre.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 Kelvin Herrera's been released by both Chicago teams this month.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Just quoting this to let everyone know that I ethered this post so hard it got deleted in like 10 seconds. Have a good day. (this post isn't breaking any rules, Hurl) Hurl did not delete it. I was allowing posts because I broke the rules myself (although mostly did keep it on sport...but this isn't the Around Basketball thread). I am going to put a close on this thread and maybe back it up. In the meantime everyone should read the rules which were stickied yesterday.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Thread is re-opened. Lets keep it baseball. I apologize again for my participation in driving this thread off topic. I believe strongly in sport driving social change. But I have a million forums I can discuss this on. Please do read the rules stickied above.

Why not have a political forum on here? It is now obvious that politics and sports are now colliding and will be forever most likely
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Why not have a political forum on here? It is now obvious that politics and sports are now colliding and will be forever most likely We had one for years. It descended into vitriolic flamewars and personal feuds that spilled over into every other thread and almost ruined the forum.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Why not have a political forum on here? It is now obvious that politics and sports are now colliding and will be forever most likely There are good reasons. We don't have full time moderation, for one. It would be exhausting to moderate, even full time. The old politics sub forum was a free for all and led to some significant, some thought dangerous, conflict.

Discussing either on the internet can only end poorly.

They do allow a thread about eating ass, so there is a variety of thread topics still available on the board.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Tonight’s Blue Jays game was postponed because of the protest but would have likely been rained out regardless.

Wasn't the ban on politics done to make the a forum a more welcoming place for newcomers?? Newcomers will be comfortable talking about eating ass with strangers, but would be turned away by the political arguments??
