Stanton is apparently going to miss ~4 weeks with a hamstring strain, which means between ramping back up and getting ready for game shape, he likely won't be back until mid-September if he doesn't suffer any setbacks. Highly doubt he opts out after 2021 given his extensive injury history. There's still 7 years and $218M left on that contract, and it's looking like the Marlins were wise to sell high on him.

Yankees of all teams can afford to eat dead money, but they could be looking at two landmines between Stanton/Cole within the next 5-10 years.

This seems like the right amount for each.

That's the equivalent of what, like 16 games in the regular season? way too much imo

Bundy kicking ass again. 9K in 6IP, 0 runs against OAK

Final line: 7IP, 4H, 0ER, 1BB, 10K against a hot hitting A’s lineup. Lowers his ERA to 1.57 and now leads all pitchers in fWAR.

lol Orioles.

Sign Marcus Stroman

Out of curiosity. What do you think it will take to get Stroman signed. Not Jays specific....what do you think he'll end up signing for?

I don't even know how to fathom a guess at this in a post-Covid offseason. Teams will use "losses" from 2020 to negotiate against free agents. In Stroman's case his opting out won't help him.

That's just it. The market is going to be so out of whack this off-season I have no idea what to make of it. I'm thinking we see more short term deals (1-2 years) than we have before. Players might let the market reset itself then come back when things normalize a bit for a big payday. This might benefit the Jays greatly.

Yeah, I think we might see a lot of one year pillow contracts.

Agreed, which is why I didn't want the Jays to extend Giles when others were suggesting it (before Montoyo tried to kill him obviously). The FA market this winter has the potential to be very beneficial to teams with payroll flexibility and money to spend. The Jays should have both, unless Rogers is one of the owners who cries poor due to Covid. Betts was the only sure fire long term sign, but he's not on the market anymore. Probably going to see a bunch of one year deals, and/or players accepting the QO. I could also see a large group of non tenders as well.

As far as Stroman, conventional wisdom says he accepts the QO if offered, but he's got the JD/Jose mentality of being very full/sure of himself, so I could see him turning it down as well. In the end, after missing all of 2020, he's probably signing a one year deal either way.

Charlie Blackmon batting .500/.527/.721 OPS- 1.248 wOBA- .528 wRC+ 227 WAR 1.3

I think he can bat .400 this year, crazy! lol

His name is too racist for a .400 average.

How are the Cardinals going to catch up in games, they've only played 5 games and it looks like the series with CWS will be PPD as well? All Double Header series?

Evan White contract looking great so far!

wtf I had never heard of this lol

Some front office dweeb must have accidentally mislabeled the "Julio Rodriguez" spreadsheet as "Evan White". Whoops!

They won’t catch up. I think I had read that MLB is comfortable just going by win percentage with a minimum threshold of 40ish games.

Yes, just ignore the teams that don't meet the qualifying threshold.

Another question is how will the draft order be determined? Expect some form of lottery here to prevent tanking.

Im not saying ignore the teams under 40 games, im saying MLB will change schedules around to make sure teams like Miami and the Cardinals will play at least 40.

Not sure what happens if they have the highest win percentage in the division, I can’t see them letting a team like the Cardinals get 1st seed in the playoffs with only 40 games played.

Anyone else notice that Fangraphs added exit velocity to the stats listed (right on the season stats - not buried below).

https://blogs.fangraphs.com/statcast-stats-are-now-on-fangraphs/

Great addition on their part. I have to imagine they're losing a large number of potential stat consumers to baseballsavant who have a gorgeous UI and all the Statcast data available which is what most want to see nowadays, so this is a very welcome addition to the site.
