BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 Porcello reassigned as no. 2 starter until Stroman returns

BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 It's interesting how baseball economics have reached the point where a 300 million dollar contract extension offer is considered to be an insult. Both Mookie and Trout would have to be worth @4 WAR per year for their whole contract to be worth it. But based on their age and performance, they could reach the contract value after 6 years. Trout alone has averaged @ 170 wRC+ for eight years in a row.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Are we allowed to post sensitive videos like manslaughter? Yes, as long as there is no political component. Everything else is fair game.

I like this idea. Might be too gimmicky for some, but the traditional "Team X plays Team Y because of their record" can get boring. This idea would create an additional form of content (selection show), which would be great to promote the game assuming the teams have their star player be the one announcing the team's selected opponent on TV. Plus make the first round playoff matchups more personal rather than just a formality based off record.

Laika Community Moderator Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 You know it won't be implemented well. Rob Manfred and Bud Selig announce every draft pick themselves. The opponent selection show will just be Rob Manfred in his basement pulling pictures out of envelopes. "With the first selection in the 2020 American League Playoff Opponent Draft the New York Yankees select... The Minnesota Twins *no applause or reaction*... The Houston Astros have the next selection and they are now on the clock *insert 47 commercials*" Also, the selection show is blacked out in 88% of Canada and you need to be a US resident of Florida to catch it on MLB Network.

Uneducatedfan Verified Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Kind of breaking news: Juan Soto has supposedly tested positive for covid-19. My friend lives in the DC area and told me there were some rumors that the Nationals were being tested and not everyone got their tests back. But then news broke about Juan Soto. I do not see how they play season like this; especially, with some owners wanting fans in the stands. I am actually glad that we don't have to deal with this up here. I mean, it sucks for the Blue Jays but the risk is way too high.
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Don't understand how the game is going to be played under these conditions. Not hard to see a scenario where this spreads like wildfire

Not hard to see a scenario where this spreads like wildfire A hockey team in Russia had most of their team come down with it and had to withdraw from all of their preseason games if I remember right.
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 A hockey team in Russia had most of their team come down with it and had to withdraw from all of their preseason games if I remember right. This has disaster potential lol. Soto obviously came into close contact with the entire team after he had tested positive. Orioles are at risk too somewhat since they played them on Tuesday night. The game will be played because safety isn't clearly the bottom line but... yikes..
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 There are plenty of businesses all over the world that are continuing day to day during COVID. Many people going to work who are not making a $650K USD minimum salary. This is why we have expanded rosters and taxi squads. Suck it up buttercups and drive on!!! Play Ball!!!
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 The Yankees and Nats both have an off-day tomorrow. Playing this game, especially with the potential for rain to delay it anyway, is undoubtedly egregious.

Wonder if we’ll be seeing the majority of players wearing masks tonight. Hard to see how this thing WONT spread like wildfire, unless Soto’s test was a false positive
