I think I remember watching it also. I watched a lot of WGN games back in that era. Wood and Prior were incredible - but a cautionary tale of building around your rotation.

Brandon Morrow's 1 hit 17 strikeout game was the best Jays pitching performance I had the pleasure of watching. When Morrow had his good stuff and command he was a treat to watch.

I've got a black Brandon Morrow jersey as well. One of my favourite pitchers with the Jays in the post-Doc era. Hope he makes a successful return to baseball once the season starts up again. He's a free agent after 2020.

Sportsnet this week will show some of Doc's best starts with the Blue Jays. Looking forward to it! Hope they show some from the 2003 season, where he pitched the 10 inning complete game shutout. Also, looking forward to seeing the matchup against AJ Burnett and the Yankees in 2009. Even the matchup against Mark Buehrle which I think was under two hours haha.

The Rhino was just revealed as Barry Zito on the Masked Singer. He made it to the final 4! I had no idea he could sing so well. He was robbed, they should have sent the Frog home and Barry should have been in the finals.

 

I had no idea he could sing, and sing well. I was rooting for him when I only knew he was the Rhino. The judges thought it was Trace Adkins, Blake Shelton and Jason Alden, so he was in good company. Cy Young winner and damn good singer!

Interesting read. Dodgers offered 4 years, $180M, Houston offered a 1 year deal for a huge amount of money that made Harper pause and consider it.

Here's a slightly old but still relevant and pretty interesting video on Trevor May breaking down his pitches and the general schools of thought with regards to pitching. It's probably a lot of stuff that most of you will have heard, but I think he does a good job breaking it down and also seeing what kind of terminology someone like him uses as opposed to what you might hear in some broadcasts or on the web.

79 years ago today, Joe DiMaggio went 1-for-4 with an RBI single, starting his historic 56-game hitting streak. It's the longest streak ever, 12 games better than any other since. And considering the way the game has changed in the decades since, it might just be the most unbreakable record in baseball.

 

During the streak, DiMaggio went 91 for 223 (.408) with 35 extra-base hits, 55 RBI and just 5 strikeouts. From May 15 to July 16, DiMaggio raised his average from .306 to .375 on the back of 22 multi-hit games (also, getting at least one hit a day tends to help in that department).

 

His streak reached 18 against the Indians on June 1, when third baseman Ken Keltner couldn't quite handle a hard liner off Joe's bat. Keltner filed that away for later, though, and on July 17, when Yankees played the Indians again, Keltner made sure to play DiMaggio deeper, robbing him twice with backhanded grabs. And the streak was over that day.

 

By the way, in his 13-season career, DiMaggio hit 361 homers ... and struck out 369 times.

That would be nice, but Tampa would probably want offers starting with Vladdy/Bichette and Pearson. I'd rather develop some top talent and fill in the holes via FA rather than trade.

Totally agree (but it's a little nit-picky to go to the first year of the live-ball era and pick the top pitcher that year, even if those records still stand, as I'm sure there are other more recent records that are a little more unattainable than the 56-game hitting streak).

Negative Ghost Rider. He is a hitter and has hit his whole career. To the point Texas is trying him in CF and just about every position because they want to get his bat in the lineup. As I saw mentioned in a write up, he is criminally underrated. He got lost in the deep Tampa system. He is a gem and I will put money on it!

I wouldn't put much stock in the defensive projections for someone who played in 33 games at the majors last year, most of which were at a position he had basically never played before.
