Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2020 Posted March 19, 2020 It finally happened. All those years of people calling out his frame and pitching mechanics and finally they got it right. With how long he lasted though you'd think the injury is less about those things and more about him just being a pitcher in general. Just let us have this moment Honestly though, it sucks. I love watching elite pitchers. He may only end up missing half a season.

He may only end up missing half a season. I find that 12 month TJ recoveries are rare so I think the most likely scenario is he ends up missing two half seasons, which is still not the worst outcome considering he would have missed the entirety of this season under normal circumstances give or take a few months in 2021.

You think there will be baseball in 2020? I wouldn't bet on it.

Yeah. If baseball happens this year, it probably won't be for much more than two months. Add a month at the start of next year, and you're talking 13 to 14 months recovery time. I'm working under the assumption that there won't be baseball this year though.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 https://nypost.com/2020/03/19/mlbs-coronavirus-relief-plan-hung-up-on-service-time/ The union’s recent proposal was that even if no games were played in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, players would receive full service time for the 2020 season as long as they had reached certain service time criteria in 2019 — the initial plan was at least 60 days of service. MLB countered that a full service year (normally 172 days) would be credited for 130 games or more and that after that players would receive credit for actual days played. Thus, if a season were reduced to 110 days (even if with doubleheaders more games were played than days), a player would get the 110 days of service. This is going to have huge ramifications, whatever they finally agree on.

Most of the 27 did say that they just thought the 5 year rule shouldn't be waived and that is why they voted against.

onwego Verified Member Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 (edited) f*** those guys. Perfectly stated Clemente was hassled constantly by many reporters, I hope it wasn’t strictly racial, some were always calling him a head case and malingerer and whiner and the whole 9 yards. Curious if those 27 were part of the brave souls who attacked him even after his death. Edited March 21, 2020 by onwego

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 How do contracts work this season? Teams aren't bringing in any money. Do players get paid, do teams lose a year of control in the process?

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 How do contracts work this season? Teams aren't bringing in any money. Do players get paid, do teams lose a year of control in the process? I gather the league has clauses in the standard contract that allows them to suspend pay if the games are lost due to national emergency. Those haven't been triggered yet, and I guess there's no reason to until the time when the regular season would have started for all teams. We'll probably find out in the next week or so how it will be handled.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Can't see them losing a year. Would insurance kick in? I believe most contracts aren't insured. The cost is too high to be worth it.

It would be a good time. I will bet if you are on the IL, you are still paid your full salary even if the league suspends pay due to work shortage. Just spit ballin'

glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 They should pay all the salaries for the NBA players, since the NBA players love China! I like how the NBA gets so much love from the mainstream liberal media for being the progressive/SJW league in North America, and yet they are the one league that is proudly in bed with China. Let them suffer the hit from this virus, and leave baseball alone, dammit.
