z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 Not infringing on his free speech, but I think its a bad look for the Giants. I will boycott watching their WS celebration that I was certainly going to watch! That'll show them!
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 The gist of it seems to be Huff made some Tweets in very poor taste (not many mentioned in the article, and I don't care to dig any further) and he went with the "it's just a prank, bro" defence when he got called out on it. Bottom line is the Giants aren't censoring him or infringing on his first amendment rights because the Giants aren't the government, they're a private company that's free to not invite someone to their party if they don't wanna. *shrug* I had literally forgotten that Aubry Huff existed until you posted this Thanks for posting the Tweet. Agree with you 100% reference private company and Govt. Just think if he was part of the teams to dis-invite/not invite for what comes down to his political support and jokes, it is pretty crappy of the Org. Huff makes a good point if the owner or CEO is a spousal abuser.

Huff makes a good point if the owner or CEO is a spousal abuser. It's not purely political (or even political at all, really). Huff has a long list of stupid, offensive tweets and public comments. Recently he criticized the Giants for hiring the first female coach and said stuff like "this has #MeToo written all over it", "couldn’t imagine taking baseball instruction from an ex female softball player. Have fun with that @bcraw35 @bbelt9 @BusterPosey." He's mostly just an *******. He probably labels things "jokes" in hindsight when they are insulting. If he was just an outspoken Trump supporter he would still be invited. f***, half or more of the players in MLB are probably Trump supporters - they are mostly rich and white so they aren't all liberals. The Larry Baer thing (Giants CEO) was very stupid. He tried to take a phone out of her hands and she fell off a chair in the process. It's bananas that Baer faces any repercussions at all.

I guess that makes more sense, except for IF, Huff is telling the truth, the CEO stated, (according to his Twitter) that his support for Trump was part of the reason. If that was not a factor, and it was just his "other" types of Tweets, then to me that is more understandable. IF, the CEO did say support for Trump being a reason. I still think that is BS, and the CEO should have kept his reasoning and statement related to "other" offensive Tweets.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 The reasons one does not get invited to a party, don't matter. Too f'ing bad.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 The reasons one does not get invited to a party, don't matter. Too f'ing bad. So if you were a contributing member of two WS Champions and you didn't get invited to the team reunion celebration because you are the friendly neighborhood commie, that wouldn't bother you and is not fair to you/the player? The party is not a party with friends only. It is members of that team. What next, don't give a guy a ring if he wins a WS because of his Twitter and political opinions?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 Man - I'd love to know what the proposed deal actually was. It sure seemed like a slam dunk deal for the Angels, which now appears to be off the table because Art don't wait for nobody. Brilliant. MLBTR saying the deal was Pederson and Stripling for Rengifo and Andy Pages (very low minors OF). Seemed like a really good deal for the Angels. Pederson only has a year of control left, but they only needed him for a year anyway since they are grooming Adell to take that spot by 2021. A 3 WAR OF for a season plus 2 WAR rotation depth would have been huge for the Angels. They need every 2020 win they can get.

Best ever move by the Ninja was to dump that contract.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 Pages is a Dodgers prospect. I read it off MLBTR: "The trade that would have sent Dodgers outfielder Joc Pederson and Ross Stripling to the Angels for infielder Luis Rengifo and outfield prospect Andy Pages appears to be dead." Maybe they got Pages confused with someone else.

There were certainly other pieces involved, from the Angels, that never made it into any rumours. Pages + Stripling + Joc is worth a lot more than Luis Rengifo!

That would make more sense as Friedman is smart, and I don't think Rengifo for Pederson and Stripling + is a good deal for LAD. I guess we'd have to know what other pieces the Angels were going to give up in this deal before we can fully evaluate, but from 2020 perspective, that type of deal would have helped the Angels a lot. Trout needs to see post season in his prime (as long as it doesn't impact the Jays making it). Not sure they are quite there yet as is, but haven't seen the projected standings.

Currently they project to win about 85 games and just miss the playoffs. They need to cut Pujols yesterday and hope they get a breakout from guys like Patrick Sandoval, Jo Adell, Jose Suarez and/or resurgent years from guys like Ohtani or Upton. Can't say that I am hopeful - they have depth issues. The same old issues, really.

I don't get why they don't run with Thaiss or Ward at the position, they don't owe Albert anything, and he's been terrible.

I don't get why they don't run with Thaiss or Ward at the position, they don't owe Albert anything, and he's been terrible. Sunk cost fallacy. That's literally the only explanation for why he's still getting time in a uniform.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 We can complain about Rogers, but at least they don't do stuff like this. Yeah that's some pretty crazy level rich dude entitlement. If there is a team that should be more desperate to win now than the Angels I am having a hard time coming up with it. To have quite possibly the best player ever in MLB and fail to make the post season for most of his career up to this point is ultra embarrassing, and to have an owner throw a hissy fit and torpedo a move as that greatly improves your team's chance of winning as part of that tantrum is even worse.

The team has stated before, he's violated team rules. If he were still a player on the team, he'd be suspended from the team and all team activities. I think it's actually a consistent statement by the Giants. It is not the way it will be spun though.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 I thought the O's were going to give him 600 PA this year. Disappointing.

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 Hard to believe he was our #1 prospect as recently as 2016. That's wild The line between a five tool player and a one tool bum can be remarkably thin.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2020 Posted February 20, 2020 Apparently Ben Zobrist is at home and has no plans to play baseball this year. Hasn't officially retired, but sounds like he will. One of the most underrated players of his time. Retires with more WAR than Omar Vizquel and of course Harold Baines, but he won't get a sniff for the HOF.
Ray Verified Member Posted February 20, 2020 Posted February 20, 2020 Luis Severino shut down with forearm discomfort. That's both him and Paxton down in the Yankees rotation.
