z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 Where did you read that? Why would they move him? https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/01/reds-considering-nick-senzel-trade-rumors.html
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 Where did you read that? Why would they move him? He's young and highly rated so he has a lot of value to move for a top tier piece like Lindor, and he's kind of in a positional limbo. His best positions ostensibly are in the infield, where the Reds don't seem to view him as a SS, and superior players Eugenio Suarez and Mike Moustakas are now occupying 3B and 2B for the Reds. They also signed Akiyama, perhaps signalling that they also don't view him as a good enough fielder in CF (or they just like the former more), and they have a logjam on the corners of guys who can all hit but may likely not be good defenders.

Yeah I think they are eyeing Lindor and perhaps willing to move Senzel and more. Makes a lot of sense for both teams tbh.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 Where is that data I pulled for under .500 teams adding $25M or more in Payroll? I do believe most of the teams did not get to .500 again the next season.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 I should have elaborated. Senzel's like a year removed from being a top 3 prospect in baseball and should still carry and insane amount of value in trade talks. I guess this rumour is premised on getting a player like Lindor or some other young, controlled top prospect in a position of need because you don't block him with JAGs like Aquino, Akiyama or even Moustakes as there's a decent chance he's actually better than all 3 of those guys as soon as 2020 and based on his pedigree, is someone you build around. Would be interesting to see what he costs. Winkler would also be an interesting target for our underwhelming OF.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 So now with the leaked story that the NL gets the DH in 2021, the Reds moves make more sense.

I see it was on his throwing shoulder, so who knows how his arm strength bounces back afterwards.
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 I dont see how the Jays get Senzel, even though they should be in on him. He seems like a guy that the Reds could turn into an all-star tier player, as pointed out above.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 Starling Marte has been traded to the D-Backs. Apparently for two prospects, but names not known yet.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 The Diamondbacks are good? huh?
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 I've seen it a few times already, but when did the rule that you can't be traded until a year after your draft signing go away, and what did that rule change to?

IIRC, it's six months. If said player is in a deal prior they just use the PTBNL loophole.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 Thank f***. Next step: Ban bunting altogether.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 The Diamondbacks are good? huh? NL West is pretty weak. The Dodgers still win the division, hands down. The Giants, Rockies and Padres aren't going to be that good, so the D'Backs could definitely beat up on some of their divisional opponents. Teams in the NL Central will be beating up on each other, same in the NL East. I like the D'Backs chances of grabbing a wild card spot in the NL.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 I trust Kenny Ken on this one, Bowden's dumn. Wait, which side is AGAINST the DH? The MLBPA gets more people jobs and the owners don't have to worry about their pitchers getting injured on the bases? It's absolutely win/win.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 Wait, which side is AGAINST the DH? The MLBPA gets more people jobs and the owners don't have to worry about their pitchers getting injured on the bases? It's absolutely win/win. No doubt, agreed.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 Owners probably aren't against it but they would use it as a bargaining chip in the next CBA. We'll give you the DH if you give us X. I guess they would say they have to spend more $ on an extra hitter in the NL but I doubt they actually care about that. I've always gotten the sense that the owners are pushing the DH rule on to unwilling players.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 I've always gotten the sense that the owners are pushing the DH rule on to unwilling players. Nope. Every time it has been proposed it's been by the players including last January A universal designated hitter — something the players have sought for more than three decades, according to commissioner Rob Manfred — also was part of the union’s proposal. Under the plan, the National League would adopt the DH for the 2019 season.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 I'm pretty sure the only side that argue FOR pitchers hitting is NL fans in their antiquated view that it actually adds something (positive) to the game. If the baseball subreddit is any indication (yes Reddit is a cesspool but there's a large community there) then there are a large number of fans that actually want to keep the DH to the AL only. Granted, I'm sure this is a change that people would forget and welcome a couple of years after it is implemented.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 If you want to make things more interesting, allow the home team to choose whether the DH is used in any given game.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 I guess I'm in the minority that likes the DH split. Then again I'm a fan of an AL team and don't watch too many NL games during the course of a season. I can see how that would get old real quick if I'd have to see Jays pitchers hit in every game. My nostalgia for it goes back to the Jays World Series days.
