JuneBug Verified Member Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 I don't think the presence of Grichuk has much, or any, impact on a Jays decision to pursue an elite guy like Springer. So if the Jays were to land a top-tier CFer, we are talking about Grichuck, Teoscar and Gurriel, sharing time in the corner OF (and each with a few outings as DH). I guess it depends what you can get for any of these 3 in trade. If a deal can be made with one of them and a top pitching prospect, like Kloffenstein for example, being dealt for a high end, MLB ready, pitching prospect it seems you need to make the move. Question is how much of Grichuk's remaining $30M owed that the Jay's send the other way. Would be a big gamble for an unproven even if top tier prospect.

They could also consider dealing Hernandez or Gurriel for an established MLB SP. Teo and Lourdes should have a lot of trade value.

Teo and Lourdes should have a lot of trade value. As long as it's not an established pitcher like Roark or Chase Anderson (retreads). What team might need some corner OF help and has a surplus of young pitching? Hmm, maybe AA over there who appears about to lose Ozuna? I wonder if he would be crazy enough to trade Soroka. I would give him Gurriel, Woods-Richardson (or Manoah), and Groshans-- now I am starting to sound like Dave Stewart trading for Shelby Millar

It's causing a bit of a logjam which is hurting our defense more than anything right now. We also really need more starting pitching.

There's a very good chance SWR is better than Soroka as soon as 2022.

Would probably be a good move for both teams honestly.

Not sure they'd move anyone else after trading Clevinger, but the Indians definitely need OF help and seem to always have SP depth. I'm fine with moving Hernandez (K% is still very high so maybe a good sell high candidate) but have to make sure to get a legit rotation upgrade. I think I'd want to hold on to Gurriel.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 Well, I guess we can applaud the effort by Randal.

But there is a very good chance (from what he has shown in 214 ip with 4.9 fWAR at the BIG LEAGUE level), that Soroka could be as good as Roy Halladay in 2021. And he just turned 23. Giving up several unproven prospects for a guy that has shown 'he's got it' in The Show makes so much sense (the Achilles will heal fine enough it shouldn't significantly affect his pitching). Getting the 'best player' who also fits your window can usually 'win' the trade. It reminds me of the Jay's trade that brought over Donaldson.

Not unless your definition of "good chance" is like, a 10% probability. (the hypothetical trade is still too much)
JuneBug Verified Member Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 Nope. Not unless your definition of "good chance" is like, a 10% probability. (the hypothetical trade is still too much) WHOOPS! I just realized my original suggestion was Soroka for "Gurriel, Woods-Richardson (or Manoah), and Groshans". Then later I was talking about only giving up unproven prospects. Gurriel has proven himself a good MLB player; still with some 'breakout' potential. But, I still think the massive upside of Soroka will be the winner. See Astros 2017, Verlander; Red Sox 2018, Sale; Nationals 2019, Strasburg.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 no offense intended but your comment suggests that you are a homosexual (not that there is anything wrong with that, ) You're in for a treat this winter when we hold another hottest Jays players contest.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 Nope. Not unless your definition of "good chance" is like, a 10% probability. (the hypothetical trade is still too much) 20-25%, or 1 in 4/5.

JuneBug Verified Member Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 20-25%, or 1 in 4/5. you had me confused for a bit. Probably more clear to say 20-25% (1/5 to 1/4)

I don't think Bauer's thought process is that far off from the F.O. It would come down to usage. Luba wants to meet in the States or by phone as she does not wish to take two weeks out of her meetings

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 Shoemaker quoted today saying it might be tough to get FA to sign in Toronto due to COVID Here's the quote. "If COVID-19 is still a factor ... that could play a huge aspect in anybody coming to Toronto, and hopefully it doesn't," Shoemaker told Sportsnet's "The Good Show" on Wednesday. "I think in general, before this season, everybody ... loves coming to Toronto when they play them on the road. ... But I think it's semi-tough for people to go to Toronto over a picking a different team in a regular season because some people are intimidated about going over the border." "If Toronto wants you and they want to sign you to a deal, oh, but hey, the government still says, 'You guys have to play in a bubble,' (and) maybe you're the only team (in a bubble) because it's Canada, and your family can't come, that would be a really big discussion," the 34-year-old said.
