Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Even Thornton or Borucki could be in the mix. Anderson will definitely be gone ($500K buyout is a done deal at this point). Roark may get another chance since they are on the hook for the full $12M, but won't last through May, if he continues to pitch the same garbage as this season. Seems to be a lack of command, getting behind in the count and no 'stuff' to battle out of it. The guy had 14.7 fWAR in 7 seasons from 2013-19 (average 2.1 per season), but garbage right now. I think Thornton won’t return until 2022 no?
The Iceman Verified Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Gurriel is f***ing awesome. What a find. Lou-Gu-Ju should receive a bump from 7th in the order now that he is top 20 in MLB avg don't we think?

wilko Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 I think Thornton won’t return until 2022 no? He went to get his elbow cleaned up due to having "loose bodies" in it. Who knows what that means for rehab. He could be back next ST or out for the year.
Ray Verified Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Patrick Murphy time. He's been activated as the 29th man for todays doubleheader. Hopefully we get to see him pitch.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 DUDE, he said that a good while back. I heard he had already been 'waffling' when asked about it more recently. I think Mike's suggestion of $40 M for 1 year is forseeable, but I still think he takes 2 / 70 if he likes the team offering. Jays probably need to go 1 / 45 ? Angels should be all over him
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Would anyone try to sign Ray to an extension before hit becomes a free agent? Not sure he'd even consider but...
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 If Robbie Ray signs the Taijuan Walker contract sure. 1/2M sounds about right.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 I'm excited for Patty Murphy
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Would anyone try to sign Ray to an extension before hit becomes a free agent? Not sure he'd even consider but... 1000% at this point. His TIPS as a Blue Jays is 2.29!
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 Love it. Not so different in the NL too. 16 out of 30 is way too much
Ex Player Verified Member Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 Maybe its good we hit a slump right now. Then when we make postseason we'll suddenly get hot and go deep into the playoffs. Yes, thats how its gonna happen
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 Suddenly feels like we only have a chance to win when Ryu is starting
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 Suddenly feels like we only have a chance to win when Ryu is starting What the f*** happens if Ryu throws a stinker though
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 What the f*** happens if Ryu throws a stinker though You lose... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 You lose... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Lose my sanity
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 Lose my sanity The last week has been pretty nerve shattering
EdwinsParrot Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 Jays may only need to win just A game to get in at this rate lol. Anyways hopefully they turn things around starting tonight.
Ex Player Verified Member Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 I believe the magic number is 6 with 9 games to go, but I could be wrong
M.E. Verified Member Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 Will the Jays win a game before the O’s series? Starting to feel like that’s a big NO.
Dokken Verified Member Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 Will the Jays win a game before the O’s series? Starting to feel like that’s a big NO. Just from an odds standpoint, regardless of the haplessness of the opposing team, it is very hard to get the sweep in a 4 game series. To get swept in back to back 4 game series might be another record the 2020 Jays could set, or tie? (I believe they already set records for most HR surrendered in a 3 game series and also in a 5 game stretch - absolutely wretched!!) I almost hope they lose every game to the end and miss the ridiculous 2020 'post-season' altogether. This team has no business anywhere near post-season play, and these young guys need a wake-up call that the f***ing idiot Montoyo is never going to be able to give effectively.

You're the second person saying that today, that's some f***ed up train of thought, fellas.
Dokken Verified Member Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 You're the second person saying that today, that's some f***ed up train of thought, fellas. Well I did say 'almost'. A couple wins, and I am sure I will be back on the bandwagon, LOL. But seriously, this is a young team that needs to learn from adversity. What is better adversity / learning experience - s***ing the bed completely down the stretch or going into TB and getting their asses handed to them in the 1st week of Oct. ?

I get what your saying and posted as much tonight(below)... get in the PS anything can happen in a 3 game series... Damn, 6 straight losses and they've been s***, we need a turn around game, ffs! Pretty much got a playoff spot locked up. no big deal I'm not worried about that, I want them playing good ball going into the PS.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 This has gotten me thinking to the future. Is this what we want to see every year? This Jays team, or a future team like it, trying to stave off the Orioles, Mariners or Tigers for the last playoff spot? Totally cheapens the sport. Rob Manfred is the worst thing to happen to baseball since the save statistic. I am of course a fan of the Jays, but it would be a travesty to see this iteration going deep in the playoffs.

BUT, why is the 'save' so bad? Is it the concept or more so the current requirements for what counts as a save?
