Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 I like Siddal, he seems fairly knowledgeable and he calls out Charlie on his dumb s***. Way better than Zaun I'd like to see him replace Buck in the booth.
43211234 Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Dan Shulman has just been letting Buck run wild this year lol He needs to stop asking questions to Buck. I don't think an inning has gone by without Buck talking about fastball usage.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 The Borucki debate has died down but I don't understand how anyone could not like him in the role he's in now. He fills a team need perfectly and is not young enough or good enough to take him out of that element and try to salvage him as a starter. No shame in going for the Zach Britton career path and Borucki would probably agree to that since that's his best shot at getting paid.

No shame in going for the Zach Britton career path and Borucki would probably agree to that since that's his best shot at getting paid. Borucki doesn't believe that. He's said many times he views himself as a starter and in July Montoyo said the Jays view him as a starter. This isn't a normal year. The best free agent reliever last year just got 3 and 39. We're debating whether or not to give Giles 3 and 30. We just gave Roark a number 5 innings eater 2 and 24. Why would Borucki not want to be a starter? Batters are batting .080 against him this year, he's struck out 14 batters in 7.2 innings. He's given up a couple more walks than you'd like, but his breaking ball is far better than it was in 2018 when he put up a 3.8 FIP. His fastball is a lot better than it was in 2018 when he put up a 3.8 FIP. His best pitch in 2018 was his change up. When you have 3 good pitches, how can you not consider him for a starting position? This debate is far from over. You might not think he's good enough to be a starter. I completely disagree. He's 26 years old, not 30. I hope he's given every opportunity to start next year. You can always put him back in the pen. He's never failed as a starter.

Montoyo is not going to be here to decide the future of Borucki so who gives a f*** what he thinks. The fact that the Jays have elected to use him in short stints and have tried to keep Kay and Hatch more streched out is pretty telling where he is in the pecking order. Hes more of the 8th or 9th starting option then he is the 6th or next in line guy as your suggesting. Most failed starters wanted to keep starting. Borucki telling the media he wants to start doesn’t mean anything. We see this thing all the time. Most of time the guy stays in the bullpen because going back and fourth has actually ruined guys careers. Nobody is saying Borucki can’t start but with his injury history and his ceiling suggest he is probably the most valuable in his current role. I just don’t think streching him out makes sense with the other options in place. Ofcourse his velocity has ticked up across the board. That is common. Hes not throwing 96 MPH as a starter. I don’t see Borucki as #3 or better starter. Hes at best a good back of the rotation starter. I would rather have an excellent reliever in that scenario.
EastCoaster Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Wow Teoscar was up to his regular old self again another crucial error that led to 2 run score on a routine play in the outfield. Dan Shulman said it yesterday that Teoscar Hernandez is not a regular outfielder and it quite evident this guy has been in pro ball for 9 years and still makes stupid rookie mistake regularly. The Astros knew that giving up his bat was the offset for his poor fielding capabilities. Hernanadez is DH at best
goldbug103 Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Unfortunately Jays have too many DH only types with solid bat. Vlad is another, oh wait Vlad is poor in both aspects so never mind. Jays can use Tellez at 1st, Hernandez at DH. And send Fatty down until his launch angle is at least league average.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 (edited) Pretty much agree with Jonn. Though I would like to see Borucki do 2 or 3 IP relief sessions. If his velo and stuff continues to play, no reason he can’t be a piggy back guy while waiting for a rotation spot to open. Edited August 20, 2020 by BlueRocky

You have to imagine they are worried his arm will fall off if he's pushed too much. It always has.

jerb Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Toronto Blue Jays @BlueJays ROSTER MOVE: RHP Trent Thornton has been activated from the 10-day IL. To make room on the active roster, OF Anthony Alford has been designated for assignment.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 It was going to happen sooner or later. I expect Baltimore to give him a shot.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Honestly considering the extra roster spots this season. Was pretty stupid to not keep him as a pinch runner. But at rhe same time be can’t hit fastballs over 93 MPH.
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 What about McKinney? He's hitting .667! Nope. But I get the false equivalency.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Feel bad for Alford because of all the injuries and he seems like a genuinely good guy. Hopefully he latches on to a team outside the division like Oakland or something and establishes himself at least as a viable 4th OF/pinch runner option.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Is he better than who they have? Dwight Smith Jr has a s*** arm, but maybe hits better. The Orioles are all over our DFA guys. Would not surprise me.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Is he better than who they have? Dwight Smith Jr has a s*** arm, but maybe hits better. Dwight Smith Jr. has no positive qualities. He's a below average hitter, a brutal defender and an average at best runner. At least Alford has one or two positives going for him, although his bat might be really really bad.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Guess they just prefer Davis. As a 4th/5th OF, Davis is probably the better player as historically he has been able to hit LHP in the minors, has speed, and is a legit CF. Alford just couldn't hit enough.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Is he better than who they have? Dwight Smith Jr has a s*** arm, but maybe hits better. Can he be worse? I like Alford he's a good dude and can definitely help some team in this pandemic season and shouldn't have a problem latching on somewhere with expanded rosters.

Either way piss poor roster management letting Alford leave for nothing. Thornton really didn’t need to start today.
