Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 Boy do I miss the Donaldson/Bautista/Stroman/Reyes(?) days. Shitheads with fire that actually know how to play the game of baseball and give a f***. Wasn't Reyes railed against quite a bit for a big smile and laugh after making an error?
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 Wasn't Reyes railed against quite a bit for a big smile and laugh after making an error? Yes, but don't let facts interfere with rosy hindsight.
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 in 2 weeks it will be the 5 year anniversary of Jays ownership throwing AA to the gutter and hiring Mark Shapiro 5 years what does Marky Mark have to show for it ? making the playoffs once on the gift roster he was handed. when is it fair to ask some questions
43211234 Verified Member Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 Donaldson rarely ran out grounders. Bautista TOOTBLAN'd many times. But they were elite bats so it didn't really matter.
EastCoaster Verified Member Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 The Blue Jays need to make some serious decision in this short season if they plan to try and compete for a playoff spot. Time for Montoyo to grow a set of cahoonas before it's too late Teoscar Hernandez need to be the DH again and again he makes these horrible mistake in the field that cost the team dearly. Today was prime example he non chalantly played that fly ball booted it and then miss the cutoff man allowing the run to score. This guy has been up in the league since 2017 still he make the same rookie mistake year after year. He's the Blue Jays top hitter right now but he still manage to hurt the team especially in the late innings. Guerrero is suppose to be the first baseman well let him play there and put Teoscar DH and let someone with better defensive skills play the outfield and who can be counted on to make the routine plays.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 Jays will not be making the post season, serious decisions or not. Get that thought right out of your head.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 So does this mean our pen isn't nearly as good as it appears to be?
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 So does this mean our pen isn't nearly as good as it appears to be? It's a matter of usage, I'd say. This is one of those cases where the "Loss" stat actually has SOME value, 'cause if you look at which relievers have lost us games, only 1 of them is actually good (Hatch). The others have been Yamaguchi twice, Dolis (maddeningly inconsistent), Gaviglio (ha!) and Font who has been a tire fire this season. Those guys shouldn't be used in a "close and late" or even a "close" situation AT. ALL. (Maybe Dolis, but you never know if that's a good idea until he's already 3 batters in...) Edit: Looking a bit deeper, Font's xFIP is an actually decent 3.89, so he hasn't been nearly as bad as his results this year, but I still don't think he's a "close game" kinda pitcher IMO.

That's probably not going to add anymore wins, as Guerrero isn't yet a good first basemen as far as I can see. Didn't Guerrero just blow the second Florida game with a couple of errors that allowed a few unearned runs. You have to let them both play the field and rotate into DH occasionally. Let the cards fall where they may.... No need to make big changes to try and win the Corona bowl. Justin won't even let them have a Parade.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 This doesn't factor in how many runs were given up by errors or stupid BP decisions. We'd probably would have a lead or bigger lead in half those games.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 Jays will not be making the post season, serious decisions or not. Get that thought right out of your head. We have a playoff calibre pitching staff for 2020. If the hitters can get it together, there's no question that this team would be in a playoff spot.

IMO we need to get back to using Font as an opener for once through the order, and then bring in Borucki for the same. Let them go every 3rd day (pushed back if that falls on a Pearson or Ryu start). Do the same with Yamaguchi and Kay.
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 I wonder how much better things had gone if they were just allowed to play at their home

DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 Well this season didn't take long to turn s*****.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 Who do you pull from the rotation? Shoemaker or Roark? Shoemaker would remain, and would make whatever remaining starts there were until he inevitably goes on the DL.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 Has Randal Grichuk improved his approach? Career best BB and K rates so far. If he can bring the old power back into the equation...
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 Whatever, season is a wash anyways. Would be nice to have a legit backup option at shortstop like Groshans. Maybe Espinal gets the job and shows some promise. Hope its not Panik and Drury sharing duties at SS

I just don’t know if you throw Groshans into the big leagues. As interesting as an experiment as that may be to some.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 Ffs it just keeps on getting worse How the f*** did this happen?? Stretching in the on deck circle?? Gurriel had 4-5 week injury stints the last two years. Each time he was on the ground like someone shot him and screaming in pain for a few minutes, and had to be helped out off the field.... Bo took an at bat after and ran the bases.. . maybe it was something minor and he did more damage ? Weird.

If we’re gonna tank this season and use it as development time, the top prospects need to be called up. Running drills in Rochester will only get you so far. Especially non-sure things like Kirk, Murphy, Manoah, SWR etc. At this rate, Austin Martin won’t debut until he’s 23 and Jays have control until he’s basically 30. This service time manipulation thing is bogus. Look at the Padres, they’re playing winning baseball and don’t give a s*** about manipulating service. If any of those guys become super stars that warrant the $$$, that’s a positive problem to be solved in 2027. Enough of this Drury and Panik shenanigans.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 A player gets injured playing baseball. Why does it always happen only to the Toronto Blue Jays? Time for everyone to put their feet into concrete blocks and jump into Lake Ontario. Things like this wouldn't be such an issue if the team didn't always have paper thin depth and there were compelling players to replace the injured ones. Oh wait, this year there is. Let's see how Montoyo acts in this situation.

At this point I wonder what Drury would have to do to actually get the boot. His Statcast page is comical. He's actually above average at barreling the ball but he's still toward the bottom of the league in exit velocity. The guy has zero talent. I wouldn't call up any blue chippers for this s***** ass year but I would absolutely call up the Forrest Walls, the Josh Palacios, etc. Heck callup Andy Burns. Play Espinal over Panik. If anything you know Montoyo will find ABs for everyone. Also, if they aren't going to put Alford in CF when he actually plays why not callup McKinney and play him in a corner instead? If he hits the 75th percentile or higher on his projections he's a big leaguer. I hope we start seeing stuff like this.

The only thing I can think of is they're hoping for a hot streak to be able to sell him for something small at the deadline.
