I really don't understand how the Jays travelling to Boston for a ST game makes sense? They could have all done ST in Florida and Arizona and taken a sanitized bus and been back in their secure living arrangements by evening. That goes for all teams during ST... Regular season, yes, ST... Not understanding the logic..

It doesn't appear as though logic is factoring in to the decision making.

I have an unpopular and admittedly unfair position on this in that yes, I think athletes should be given special treatment because, if the choice is between all the Blue Jays opting out or reducing quarantine measures for them, I'll take option B. Sad reality is that the players are providing a service. We all want to watch sportball stuff.

Good thing the Twitter Karens are here to set the players straight.

They are only called Karens if they are trashing/WhiteWomansplaining vaguely liberal ideas. I recommend a week ban for inappropriate use of crappy political terms.

Actually, I recommend a week ban for yourself for not knowing what a Karen is

That is insane. Don't blame Shaw there.

I agree the restrictions shouldn't be that tight. However, if it's a choice of those conditions playing in Canada or playing under looser restrictions playing in Florida, they clearly aren't worried about the virus.

Shaw is brand new to the club, he's coming off a s*** year. He really shouldn't be the one complaining about making 1.48 mil for 2 to 3 months of baseball in a bubble. We ask young men and women to leave their families for 9 months heading to Afghanistan facing real danger for 100K. 2 to 3 months, depending on if you make the playoffs, for 1.48 million to play baseball in a live in luxury hotel seems like a pretty good gig. Shut your pie hole Travis.

I just don’t see where Rowdy will play, the DH spot is better utilize to rest players & giving guys a half day off. The power is intriguing though and we could use the lefty bat. IF he could play right field I’d stuff him there over Teoscar when Grichuk goes CF.

If Rowdy is league average he doesn't have a place. If he could be 20% to 25% better than league average you have to put him in there as a DH against right handers. The problem is, will he be given a chance? 3 hits yesterday with a homer and another homer today. If he stays hot for the next 2 weeks he might force the issue. He looks fitter to me. Shaw is lucky that Vlad is too fat to play 3rd. If Vlad was still at 3rd Rowdy might steal playing time from Shaw.

Rowdy forcing the issue would be a great problem to have, he was below league average at 91 wRC+ last season. For him to jump to 115-120 would be a Major improvement.

For starters, he’ll have to show a much better walk rate like he did in the minors, he was taken to the cleaners by breaking balls last year with a .224 WOBA vs breaking pitches.

The bat still has a chance to play. I think there are intriguing elements to him for sure. He completely torched AAA in his short stint in 2019. But I don't think he's part of a contending Blue Jay team in the long run.

My hope is that he gets hot for 60 games and then we can trade him for something decent. It'll be interesting to see the transactions in general after this season. You would think this regime will shift aggressively towards trading for some key pieces after all the hoarding of prospects they've done in recent years.

what he said...

Let me clear up the $750,000 fine thing. If they break quarantine it could be considered lying to a border official which carries that fine. There have been at least 7 American's charged with breaking the rules after they came into the country so far (maybe more it was an article I read last week). The biggest fine so far has been $1000.

The two Americans were fined CA$1,000 ($736) each, according to CTV.

Individuals could face a fine of up to $750,000 and a sentencing of up to six months in jail for failure to comply with Canada's Quarantine Act, according to a government news release in March.

26 man rosters going forward makes it at least a bit more likely that Rowdy can carve out a role as a strong side platoon player or Matt Stairsy (plus 8 inches and 60 pounds) pinch hitter on a good team. Needs to mash RHP, mainly.

2 homers are 2 homers. You can't take that away from the big man, but they were off anthony bass and Joey Murray.

Murray's actually pretty good though.

Home beats road 5-0 in the 2nd #Bluejays intrasquad game of Summer Camp. Rowdy Tellez homered twice and drove in 3; Travis Shaw had a 2-run shot. Anthony Kay (3), A.J. Cole (1) and Thomas Pannone (1) with the 5-inning shutout.
