Ryan Aceucki= Chris Carpenter. Don’t give up yet!

Bad couple of days for Ole Carlos. Two out of my three favorite Jays with problems. The Reese Car Jacking and now Aceucki injury.. Let’s hope Biggio stays healthy and stays away from drugs and hookers.

Sucks that Borucki is out, but between Yamaguchi, Kay, Zeuch, and Waguespack battling for that last spot along with Pearson not too far off, I’d say we’re still in good shape still.

It's things like this why no one should ever be worried that we have "too many options" for that fifth starter (or even fourth starter) position. Pitchers will continue to be injured, and hopefully we should have enough depth to have a capable replacement for the non elite guys like Ryu.

Thornton, too. I assume it's his job to lose at this point.

I'd think for anyone other than Thornton or Yamaguchi to take that spot, it would mean they really stepped up and were one of the bright spots of ST. Should be Thornton's to lose.

Shun will definitely be on the 26 man so if they want to give him a chance to be a starter he’ll be in the rotation and Thornton at AAA.

Barring a disastrous performance from Thornton in ST they'll both very likely be on the MLB team, regardless of if both are pegged as full time starters.

Maybe if we start with a six man rotation, or get another injury. Too early to convert Thornton to a reliever IMO just because we have too many starters right now. Of course they may decide they prefer Shun in the bullpen, so problem solved.

You could also just piggy back them for 3-4 innings each so they keep somewhat of a starter's workload until someone eventually gets injured and they can take over full time. This is really a non issue, our bullpen is really sketchy aside from Giles - with Bass, Dolis, Font all being different levels of interesting - so Shun and Trent will get their innings.

I hope the emphasis is on current because they have plans to improve that spot and not long term. Not an fan of Grichuk in CF or high in the line up..

I want an improvement as well but Grichuk is by far the best internal option.

Would have liked to get Margot even just for the defensive upgrade.

Shun has incentives in his contract based on innings pitched. I think he's penciled in as the #5 starter heading into spring training. Of course with injuries you never know how the rotation will shake out.

Someone who knows defensive metrics, how did Gurriel's shape up after moving to left? He sure as f*** passed the eye test for me anyway, and really .7 on the ZiPS projection, 20 homeruns seems quite low too.

DRS, UZR and OAA all said he was below average. Good arm but poor range.

Apparently they are thinking of Drury as the backup SS and are hoping Bichette starts 150 games. Makes sense, really.

Drury kind of sucks man

Indeed. BUT since he's already being kept around, I'd rather they just use him as the backup SS to the team trying to stuff some other s***** backup SS onto the 40 man.

Also, maybe they can extract some value out of him by moving him UP the defensive spectrum.

The old school thinking was defense up the middle - offense on the corners.

If Grichuk can be a positive defensive CF - then his mediocre numbers "play up" in center field. A potential 30 homer bat and a .750ish OPS is good in center field and as a number 8 hitter (the second cleanup bat).

Of course all that would help if the right field bat to replace Grichuk was someone like Stanton and not Fisher. But that's why the Jays are a fourth place team not a first place team. Can't fix all the holes in one off season. Jays have to get lucky with some of their young players and have some of the pitchers take some unexpected leaps forward - Pearson comes in and dominates or Kay becomes a solid number 3 starter - need one of those Estrada surprises where a projected fringe guy becomes a solid number 2.

Grickuck's OPS and Ks suck.. The problem is he does not hit 8th, if he did, I would be ok with it. That and he is too streaky... I don't count on s*** from him 1st half. Is he really that much better defensively than Teo in CF? If we are not going outside the org. I really hope Alford has a great spring, stays healthy and knocks Grichuk to RF.

I guess this basically means Shaw and Grichuk share the 5 and 6 spots in the order, but i hope not. Grichuk should not be hitting in the top 6, hitting 7th is ideal for his skill set.

So our projected 4th best hitter should bat as low as 7th? lol

4th best hitter by what metrics?? Bichette, Biggio, Vlad, LGjr , maybe Shaw, Grichuk has a high SLG% and s*** OPS, avg, K rate contact rate.. He has power when he makes contact... Which usually doesn't start until the 2nd half or in streaks where he sucks in between streaks.

There will most likely be at least 6-7 players with a better wRC + than Grichuk.
