When the kind of person who tries to ‘win’ arguments in real life by shouting the loudest doesn’t have a valid counter argument they go straight to the lower levels of the hierarchy of disagreement. A ban of levels 6 and 7 would promote discussion but you’d have to cope with the “fReE sPeACh!!” complaints!

I think most people have a pretty good idea where the line is. I wouldn’t want a blanket ban on anything, because part of the forum’s appeal is that it’s loosely moderated. It’s just a bit much when you have one poster here everyday picking fights across multiple threads.

I do think it puts off new posters when any discussion over different opinions usually dissolves into name calling. But yeah you're probably right that strict moderation is a bit too far (and we don't have enough active mods to implement it anyway).

Boxy needs to learn that mud-slinging is allowed but your content still needs to be like 2/3 quality contribution.

 

If a poster does almost nothing but throw around insults and sarcastic responses and hangout in the cesspool politics thread then timeouts are justified.

He's legitimately a couple adjustments away from being a top of the rotation guy. He needs to completely ditch his sinker which he inexplicably started throwing as much as his 4-seamer despite getting hit hard (.337 xWOBA). He throws his curve only 10% of the time despite it being far and away his best pitch. It has a better xWOBA than Gerrit Cole's curveball. His average fastball velocity is 96th percentile in the league. So much to like there. I would gladly throw a $90M over 5 years at him.

It's worth doing due diligence to see if Wheeler is open to the idea. He likely will have to change his pitch mix anyways if teams like the Yankees and Astros are interested in him.

 

The one thing that makes him a landmine is his injury proneness. But the last two seasons have at least quieted down his inability to stay healthy.
