OK - whatever bud.

you know who else wouldn't have been in our 2021 rotation? Marcus Stroman - after signing a FA deal elsewhere.

Stroman did nothing but talk about how much he enjoyed his time in Toronto and would gladly explore an extension. As a GM you typically want to cultivate relationships with your stars, not alienate them. There's no reason why stroman would not have signed an extension if we would have maintained a relationship. Did our GM come out and put a 5 year 70 or 80 mil offer on the table for him to reject? No. If they had at least made the offer, they would have a greater leg to stand on in terms of trading for a back end rotation guy and higher risk prospect with upside that is 3 years away.

Dude - there are all kinds of assumptions there. Now to be fair, I probably should have said "you know who else may not have been in our 2021 rotation? Marcus Stroman"

You don't know if the FO offered Stroman an extension, if they did, you don't know the years or value. You don't know if Stroman's camp approached our FO with an offer or the years or value of it. We don't even know if Stroman's 'talk' that he loves the Blue Jays is true (I mean it's never wise for a player to suggest he hates the city/team he's playing for). For all we know, he 'talks up' Toronto as leverage for getting more money or term.

I mean you can make all the ignorant assumptions you want - but it's a bit irresponsible.

The reality is - we now have a ton of quality arms in our system. I mean again, you make some ignorant assumptions about how good they will be in 2021-2022 - but why do that? why be that guy?

Kay is being a bit underrated here. SWR is the more exciting player because of stats and upside, but in terms of value Kay and SWR are close to equal right now. His stuff and pedigree and history also indicate that it would be pretty wise to not focus too much on the smaller sample K and BB rates or ERA. He could be pretty freaking good! Watch him pitch!

Stroman has played a lot of you like fools.

He wasn't resigning here, he will be a Yankee in a couple years.

I don't think Stroman plans to resign at all, he's only 28 and still probably has quite a few good years left in the tank.

I'm actually curious as to if you know how a rebuild works?

You seem to bitch as if a complete rebuild should take 3-4 years.

There's a difference between a rebuild of a rich team, a mid tier market and a poor market. Gurriel development has been an unexpected win. We have Gurriel, Biggio, Gurrerro and now Bichette here today. If you believe in yourself and the money you gave Grichuk, you have to assume Grichuk will bounce back to be at least a 2 win player next year. Pearson will be here mid next year. With a crap load of money to spend and Pearson and Stroman at the top of your rotation with the young cheap position players you would have be a ultra conservative risk adverse guy to not see a path to contention in 202. Pushing it off to 2023 like you're the tampa bay rays and can't afford any miss steps is chicken little convinced the sky is falling in.

I agree with this.. Stroman knew what he was doing.

I disagree though if they wanted to sign him to a long term deal, I'm sure they could of worked something out.

like I said, all they had to do was offer 5 and 75 and have Stroman reject it and the optics look much better. Why didn't they do this?

Do you know they never discussed terms with Stroman and his agent?

Why play games? Front office didn't like him so they got rid of him.

that's fine, but my post was in response to others who suggest he never would have signed here. I don't think that was the case.

no I am expecting this type of information leaked just like everything else is leaked. We offered Edwin 4 and 80. At the time we knew he wasn't going to accept that, but the information got out.

The Astros would be a good landing spot, but the Mets are a better spot than the AL East if he is looking for a big payday.

After taking time to think about it, I still don’t like the deal. There’s just so much time for an 18-year old A-ball pitcher to go off the rails.

I think the reasons for (apparently) committing to a trade and not exploring an extension also matter here. Obviously we don’t know and will probably never find out, but if this was a case of Stro wanting crazy money and the team’s hand being forced then it makes more sense. But I think this is a healthier org with a reasonably extended Stro than with the two prospects we got in return.

I value your opinion

Do you think there is something to be said about a front office that evaluates and targets specific players, and acquires them even when more highly touted prospects are available. Clearly they are using internal valuation that differs from information communicated from more traditional outlets.

s*** return from a s*** GM. Armchair fans like us recognize this is s***.

Could Atkins have been so pissed with Stro and worried that he was going to shine for another organization in the playoffs making them looked bad that they took less from the Mets??

At least they didn't include cash like the massive return we got for Donaldson.

$2.7 million and Donaldson for a broken down s*** Mayweather. only 3 wild pitches in 2 starts lasting a total of 6 innings, era 9 this year. But he throws 100 mph while the fans just throw-up.

Good lord... I was expecting more than... this. I'd be a little disappointed if Stroman was a rental and this was the return we got.

I'd honestly prefer getting Frazier and a lottery ticket back from the Yanks. I see the appeal in Richardson, but man, Stro is literally the best SP on the market with an additional year of control. We should've got a haul.

This front-office sucks. I miss Anthopolous

If this return would've disappointed with if Stroman was a rental, then you have a severe mismanagement of the current trade market. And preferring the Yankees offer you're inferring is either A - probably not offered and B - shittier than the deal the Jay's probably got. That "lottery ticket," is a borderline org guy.

This is exactly why I'm happy he's gone, dude is an entitled little bitch.

He portrays himself as this underdog who has the world against him, so for whatever reason people give him a free pass.

Anyone can go on Twitter and BS about how much they love Toronto, and maybe he did. But like I said, he has a lot of you fooled as the "good guy" throughout all of this.

If you're expecting this all to get leaked, then maybe giv'er 48 hours?

I’ll miss Stroman on the mind since he always gave it his all out there but i certainly won’t miss all the extra stuff. Making a scene on the way out just cause you didn’t get your way to the yankeees isn’t the move, Marcus.
