They went to a good cause then :)

I've sold a few PS2 games in the $20 to $30 range on eBay. Most are around $10 though (shipping included). If you see a big lot of them cheap and in good condition, you can make decent money on them. You won't be paying for college with one sale though.

Bro. You need to buy one that’s never been opened, and put it in a chest in the attic. You can’t play it lol

You have no idea how many video games (and consoles) you find at garage sales where the mice in the attic have thoroughly enjoyed the game.

Oh. Well that sucks for them bc original Zelda is $50 pre owned

Can’t open them though. Every person that bought a Nintendo had the 1985 Super Mario Bros. $2m this year if you didn’t open it. Pretty crazy.

In comparison, if you were a super savvy WS investor and snatched up Apple at .12 in 1985 and held it, you’re looking at 590k on a $50 investment if my math is correct

Going OT but video games seem to be a good long term investment. Zelda original went for around $1m. Super Mario 65 which came way later $1.5m. I’m not a big gamer but something like GTA1 or something mint in another 20 years would prob pay for your kids college

It's actually a huge scam. How does a game sell for 30k and then 2M only a few years later?

If you have the time and the interest, video game journalist extraordinaire Karl Jobst broke down the scam talking to both the people involved and some of the hardcore collectors who have been effected. It's essentially a massive Ponzi scheme. It's actually extremely interesting.

and part 2, because it got worse:

This guy also is getting sued by Todd Rogers and Billy Mitchell who have clung to fame because they pretended to be good at some old ass arcade games no one cares about anymore, simply because he helped to expose them as frauds.

I still have the gold cartridge version of Zelda II (and the box for it).

Zelda II, however, was not a great game :P

Idk man. Collectibles have really taken off. How is Mike Trout cards selling for millions of dollars? And all this NFT s*** I completely don’t understand at all. I should just have a flip phone

Zelda II was the greatest game ever created. You're lost!

That was the side scrolling one I imagine? That brought memories of Nintendo Power magazine. I remember getting all excited about those games

Essentially, the rating agency (Wata) and the auction house (heritage) are in cahoots. This one guy, Jim Halperin, has been involved in a bunch of the artificial bubbles from the past, including coins and comic books. In this case, he actually put his own game up for sale and then bought it for a lot more so the transaction would be in the ledger and dopes in Rolling Stone and Kotaku write stories about x game selling for x amount. Things increasing in value over time is normal if it's organic. Using shill bidding and shadow clients is next level s***.

I love the Zelda series as whole, but seriously f*** Zelda II, worse game of the whole series by far.

Yeah, I mean there’s prob truth to what you’re saying but also it’s not surprising that s*** is exploding. I don’t hear much about art with these millionaire millennials. I feel like it’s NFTs and other hipster collectibles. At least from reading the news (I should say the web)
