Any decsion that involves removing Vladdy from the game is wrong. PERIOD.

He is the Jays most valuable asset and should be treated as such. We don't want Vladdy to be looking over his shoulder every time he gets a hit late in a close game wondering if he is getting yanked.

I agree with all of this. Leave the guy in the ball game, most people paid to come see him and not watch Alen Hansen pinch run in a tie game in April.

I wonder if taking him out is also partially a maintenance thing. He'll probably DH to get breathers a fair amount and I wouldn't be surprised to see him sit once in a while. The MLB schedule is such a grind and I bet it can be hard on younger guys.

Last time he was pulled he spent the rest of the game eating candy on the bench, so if it's a maintenance thing they're probably better off leaving him in the game. More time not eating sugar.

Seems highly unlikely part of Vlad's maintenance program is removing him in the ninth inning. I think Charlie thought I have this black guy who plays second sitting on the bench so he must be fast, way faster than this fat 20 year old on first. This is the right move.

Also, if you're pinch running for him all the time how is he going to lose weight!?

Are you serious? Candy?

Yeah. Multiple shots of him digging candy out of a small blue, pink, and yellow plastic container. When he finished the candy he switched to sunflower seeds, so at least he recognized that protein and fat > sugar.

Do you know if the seeds were unsalted?

Couldn't tell for sure, as I wasn't watching in ultra-hd, but I think we all know that they were salted.

Listening to Torey Lovullo in the radio

Should he have had a shot to manage here?

Don't know if he'd have been any better than Gibby. And I like Gibby. But still... Did they consider him for the job when Farrell left? Would he have taken the job instead of going to Boston to assist Farrell? Did AA seriously consider him?

To make matters worse we have to listen to Buck laud Montoyo every game as if he's this super crafty manager Edited by G-Snarls

Motoyo continues to disappoint...Why does he keep pinch running for a 20 year old? Why is Tellez hitting behind him? Teams are not giving him anything to hit.

It's because that 20 year old is not fast. Somehow many of you have convinced yourself Vlad has average speed. This is not the case. I didn't like pinch running for Vlad in a tie game with one out, but last night down by a run and none out was the right move.

No it was not..if we tie it he is out of the game, Vlad is not morales slow..There is little to be gained by pinch running everytime late in games taking your best bat out of the limeup. It's dumb.

Like I said, somehow you've convinced yourself Vlad is faster than he is. No one is morales slow. Putting in a guy who might be able to steal a base, can score on a double from first or a single from second does have some value. I would never pull Vlad in a tie game, but when you are down by one in the final inning, you can certainly argue it one way or the other. If we don't score a run his bat is out of the game too..lol

I just said he is not as slow as morales....So no..it's a dumb move period. They lose way more taking vlad out for a pinch runner then what they gain..it's that simple. and no Vlad is not terribly slow like Smoak, Morales.

Vlad is a tick below average. He's in the 39th percentile. Tellez is really slow, he's 13th percentile. Smoak, however, is one of the slowest in the league. 2nd percentile lol. So we can replace a slightly below average baserunner with an above average one but you can't pinch run for guys all game. You basically get to do it once. If the perfect situation calls for it then pinch running for Vlad is fine but with Tellez and Smoak on the team they are much more viable candidates to use our pinch runner on.

The point is that you don't pinch-run for your best hitter in almost all situations.

Pretty good rule of thumb. Keep it simple.

Down by 1 in the bottom of the 9th perhaps but I'm not even sure I'd do it in a tie game in the bottom of the 9th. You're probably not going to be able to use a pinch runner again should you need one (this assumes you didn't use a pinch runner earlier in the game for Smoak or Tellez which is probably better anyway), your best bat is out of the lineup, and tbh you're probably putting in a subpar defensive player as well. We obviously need to see more but my lying eyes tell me Vlad Jr.'s defense is better than a guy like Hanson's.

Maybe it's also a workload thing. They've implemented some simple rules to limit his workload this year.

Once again it's highly unlikely managing Vlad's workload involves pulling him in the ninth inning

That's what I thought but no here really seemed to give much credence to it. It could be a factor though. I'd like to see him get some DH time too. Much prefer DH days each week to keep him fresh instead of straight days off. Rest days are coming and no one here is going to like it lol.
