Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 Ten games is indeed a small sample, but when you are basically the worst hitting team in the history of baseball then it probably means something. We literally aren't even among the bottom 3 offenses thus far this season. IN THE HISTORY OF BASEBALL
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 As confident as I am in the rebuild, I must say that this is probably the worst Blue Jays team that I have ever seen in my 30 years of fandom. It's embarrassing and not acceptable. That falls on the coaching, the front office's poor talent evaluation, and their inability to address holes in our offense. Something needs to be done quickly. Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 C'mon bud. Grant tends to abandon logic in favour of emotion at times like these. We all knew it was going to be a tough year going in, and now people are upset because we're having a tough year.

One thing's for sure, I've never seen a team with a worse approach at the plate. We've gotta be leading the league in strikeouts at the plate right? The amount that these guys go down swinging and missing is astonishing, especially considering that a lot of these guys aren't power bats. Hopefully it's just a slow start cause it's been pretty ugly.

Calling 45 FV players is not hard, they bust all the time, not to mention guys with higher grades, just stop it. It's not rocket science.
5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted April 7, 2019 Author Posted April 7, 2019 Who's Dogg? I dunno, I guess for me personally, it's refreshing to see a few other fans who are a little irritated too. With that said, I do have an appreciation for the positivity on this board. It helps give a little perspective when one wants to throw the remote through the T.V.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 First week in, hail the pitchforks!
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 I mean, we all knew this was literally a crapshoot, give em leash, let em play, holy f***. The pitching's been great. Enjoy the process or not, there is no f***ing saviour.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 Shatkins just traded Pillar for a lottery ticket and we didn't even have to move him. You think they just woke up one day and realized we were bad? You're crazy if you think they didn't want to trade everyone over 27 as soon as they got here. Most likely Rogers wanted to put asses in the seats for a little bit longer and that's what delayed the inevitable rebuild and hurt our trade returns. These guys are on the front line of everything that correlates to winning. They know every inch of a player's decline curve. The only drawback is that they're insanely risk averse so we're not going to be trading garbage for MVP Donaldson any time soon. They are just going to collect assets for an eternity and hope some turn into Jose Ramirez or Carlos Carrasco. Man - remember when we thought we were getting Yandy Diaz for JD? So far it looks like he's made adjustments to that launch angle.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 What part of this being a complete blow-up rebuilding year are people still not getting? Right?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 What part of this being a complete blow-up rebuilding year are people still not getting? I used to snap in the GDT's, this time I look at straight fools, well then aswell, but...
intrigid Verified Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 I felt like we all knew coming into this season that we might luck out at reach 80 wins somehow. Or maybe it would one of those 40 win monstrosities. Either way, the rotten former house has been torn down, and we are stocked with fresh lumber and raw materials. Now, a couple weeks into construction and people are freaking out at the fact that it's not currently functioning like a house. Wtf?
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 What part of this being a complete blow-up rebuilding year are people still not getting? Some folks are still stuck in 2015.
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 The Jays have been horrible with the bat. With that said, if they were league average with runners in scoring position they would be in a much better place. Its a funk they have to work through. The worst thing I see is the looks to the umpires when they watch a good pitch go by.

They are not going to outspend the Yankees and Red Sox, they are clearly not on the Rays front office's level, and Cashman can do rebuilds on the fly better than they can too when it comes down to it (look at his trade history and never having a losing season). I like Shatkins but they will eventually need to start finding ways to add high impact talent beyond players they draft. This is not the AL Central. You can polish up 10 Forrest Wall's but they'll still be turds. The high performance dept either has to turn water into wine or the team will be destined to fall right back into JP Ricciardi territory when Rogers gets sick of the low attendance (which might even happen by the end of this year) and forces them to spend whether they are ready or not. I won't judge them on this season since they made no bones about tanking hard this year, but this shouldn't take 5 years to clean up either.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 I have said time and time again, that I think if Shapiro is in charge of The Indian’s FO in 2016, the Indians don't make the Miller trade and they don’t make it to game 7 of the WS.

Maybe, but they might also be the team to beat in that division still.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 I thought Luciano making the team gave it away. We're clearly going for Rutschman. Rutschman is in the 2019 draft, where the Jays are already set to draft 11th overall. It won't be Adley that they draft next season.

They will spend when the time is right in the competitive cycle. Let's remember the state of the team when they took over - old, declining, with a bottom 3rd farm. Can't compare to other teams that may not have been in that state.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 If current trends hold (which they won't) Negative Gurriel, Drury, Jansen, Hernandez, and Mckinney are done as mlb players (400+ at bats of sub .200 avg is not recoverable) Bo Bichette is done as a major league prospect (.133 in milb , it's over) Positive Stroman, Shoemaker, Sanchez, and Giles are the absolute most valuable treadline deadline chips ever. Trading them is more than enough to get high end prospects to replace, Bichette and others whos career's have ended. Cavan Biggio has had one of the greatest hitting seasons as a minor league player ever. He would enter the top 10 mlb prospects and replace Bichette Jays get top 5 pick. If current trends hold (which they won't) the franchise is still in good shape.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 f*** catchers anyway, we got Jansen. Yeah? How is he doing?

It won't be Adley that they draft next season. So.. the last time we drafted top 10 was: 2014: #9 Jeff Hoffman 2005: #6 Ricky Romero 1998: #8 Felipe Lopez 1997: #5 Vernon Wells 1996: #4 Billy Koch In current standings, we’re picking 4th in 2020.

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 Do I think the Green Goblin and Atkins are doing a Great Job no !!! That said do I think they are Doing a Bad job ummm no ! Do I believe this is all them or not them !!! ownership still as there fingers to much on the buttons I feel or in all of it and muddle up what happens with this team , like it or not ! corporations and billionaires do not buy teams For the Love of the Game , but to invest in them as they do property and future wealth And to keep the Account happy and the Taxman away ... Shell Game and loses are not always bad for a business !!! As For the Draft hard to say it was are was not them , unless they do it all themselves believe we still have Scouts and that most likely the first year or two was not on them as I am sure those picked would have been looked at and the relationship to them long before they arrived on the scene , I would hope at least. Some of this for sure Could Have and Should have been handled better ... and again this half ass approach either ways smacks more of ownership then them fully in the Drivers seat and at the Wheel ! Not the first time at the Rodeo or seeing this as a Bluejays Fan Will not be the last either ! That all being said , I am a fan first of the Team and Yes I am Canadian and I support this team as Fan and Dream of Better days To a Future so Bright I gotta wear my sunglasses at night ! But to build a winning Culture takes winning and Winners ! Leave the Kids down as bringing them up to this hott mess would be crazy at this time ... Polish the Diamonds So that there Glitter is indeed Gold .. Gold Jerry ! Those with options send down if under 24 And anyone in the minors 24 or over bring up And if they fail suck or canÂ’t do it or cut it Stop wasting time and Development time on them and punt their asses and promote from below or from within ... Next man up !!! Strange the reactions to this team What do you want a Rubber Biscuit??? It was and is what it is ... week one and the f***ing Chicken little effect is happening already oh no the sky is falling , the sky is falling ... Really like Wtf ! This may appear bad , optics can be deceiving , you all turn into umps overnight And see more Strikes then the balls or balls seen as strike ! Be a Fan , chill out and breathe !!! If you can not take the time off and take Vladdy and his fat ass for a walk ! Step outside and Enjoy spring and summer before you wreck the Fan in you or your Tv in anger ! If that Fails I suggest you proceed to the liquor Store and purchase plenty of Dark Rum Induce yourself into a coma and awake next year... like it was a Dream , just a Dream Nothing seen , nothing happened!!! Go Jays Go !!! Whoooooooooo
