He's like the mistake f*** that won't go away

She won’t go away because she’s just attractive enough that you keep calling her when you are drunk.

Pillar is a solid 2 to 2.5 win player. He isn’t awful. He’s decent on the base paths and very good defensively with an underwhelming bat. A team in contention that has some injury issues will bite on pillar because he isn’t terrible.

Sorry Todd.

The kid could be a lot of PA this year. It's now or never for him in jays uniform

Not necessarily as he won’t run out of options until next year. Though it’d be good to see him get a run in the side this season.

Bolded part is incorrect. He was just above average last year and based on his trend he will likely be average defensively this year. He's been at 2.0 WAR exactly for the past two years, trending down.

A team in contention with injury issues will pursue many other available options before enquiring on Pillar.

I expect Pillar to be a non-tender after this season unless the Jays manage to get a bag of balls for him.

Pillar has survived a homophobic slur controversy in the middle of SJW society. He will outlast everyone on the team.

Defensive metrics suck as hell. The ballplayers should hit the ball to be considered good player.

Pillar, Billy Hamilton, the old Aldreton Simmons, Juan Lagares are s***

The bolder part is not incorrect. Defensive metrics are highly volatile. Kevin is 30. He hasn’t had any significant injuries. There’s no reason to believe his defense is materially different than two or three years ago.

Uh, there is plenty of reason.

Yeah a dude who has provided 10 WAR over four seasons worth of PA, drafted in the 32nd round and the team has paid him $5 million total...BIGGEST f***ING MISTAKE EVER!!!

If players pan out as efficiently as Pillar has over a 40 man roster you have a 120 win team.

Jim has this braindead ideology that the team should have sold high on Pillar. As if he was ever a hot item ticket who could net more than a C-level prospect aka someone whose realistic upside is what Pillar already has become today.

As far as what the team does today with him RE: Alford. Holy s***, have you seen the OF depth? Or deadweight on the roster in general? The Jays have more than enough room to carry Alford and Pillar if they feel like doing so.

Why are so many people who have been posting here for like a decade seemingly under the impression that teams only use 25 players all season?

Zero good orgs clear a 25-man spot for optionable players the season after they first reach the majors unless they're an uber-prospect. Pillar is not 'blocking' anyone. I literally can;t remember the last time a Blue Jays prospect was held in AAA too long because they were 'blocked' at the MLB level. That's barely a thing that even happens in baseball.

It's the roster management version of Clogging The Basepaths theory

You dumb. Time to get rid of deadwood and give the kids playing time.

You may want to see someone about your issues.

It's only spring training. It pretty much means nothing.

he needs at least two season of being INJURED FREE. And at least 500 at bats

maybe more. He will come back down to earth. People have seen this before

from other players.

We'll probably be lucky if Alford gives us 10 WAR over the next 4 seasons.

Over the past 4 years, only 28 outfielders have provided 10 or more WAR. This would be a good result.

Well, 1 sentence was right, but then followed by verbal diarrhea, but finished on a slight upswing.

Progress is being made

Very true. But that 10 WAR would be more than Pillar over that same frame.

Pillar is a fine defensive player and barely competent enough with the bat to make him playable. A slight dip in his defense and he's a 4th OF at best

Jim managed to hijack the thread with his stupidity, but I think most people can agree to these two statements:

1. Pillar has been very good value for the Jays over his MLB career.

2. Given their skill set, ages and trajectories, there is a pretty good chance that Alford will be a superior player to Pillar going forward, perhaps as early as 2019. Considering the state of the roster and what BTS said above, it is likely these two will be able to coexist in a Jays uniform this year. Any decision to jettison Pillar should be based on his performance and expected future performance alone and any possible return, independent of whatever Alford does.

Jim's "prediction" of Pillar being non-tendered given the collapsing FA market for ~2 WAR OF players over the age of 30 hardly counts as much of a prediction. But I'm sure he'll milk for all it's worth once it happens that he was FINALLY right on Pillar after all these years of considerable excess value from this cheap non-prospect.

Jim's an idiot. End/

I'd put Jim on the same level as Tercet.

Neither are idiots, just delusional meat heads who truly believe they'd be better at running the team than the current FO.

So idiots, lol. Geeze he thanked Todd, lol. And his groundbreaking analogy. Jim's a moron.

I'd love to see Alford make the jump and force his way into our lineup this year. Alford, Pillar + Grichuk would be fun to watch defensively.
